After considering a L3800 (or deal on a L3400), I think I've decided on a 2011 MX5100. I have 50 acres of both field, pasture and wood and a 1,000 foot drive and decided the 5100 is generally a better fit for my needs. Discing fields, cutting small fields, tilling for veg crops, maintaining trails, some bush work, maintaining drive, snowplowing, etc.

For me the added size, weight, 3PH telescopic adjustments, better loader, added HP, cruise control, etc made for a relatively easy decision. I was able to look at the 3800, 4400 and 5100 side by side which made for an easy comparison. The incremental $5000 seems reasonable, especially w 0% 60 mos financing option (vs 48 mos for L)

The other bonus is the tractor is in the yard spec'd to my preference and basically ready to go. HST, R1 tires, quick detach bucket, rim guard loaded tires, rear remote, block heater, rear work light. I'm also buying a LP tiller, LP rear blade and a 6' Bush Hog Squealer cutter. I think he's giving me a fair price (similar to what people have posted for prices in the USA for tractor - I'm in Ontario).

I like the dealer, they're local which is great. I went to JD dealer yesterday about 45min. I have a JD400 garden tractor too - but found the options really expensive (4000 series have better specs, but they look small and are literally $8,000 more. The 5045e is a much stronger tractor for a similar price but no HST). The dealer has also offered a 3 day free rental of a grading scraper to help reshape my drive.

Decisions, decisions!

I just bought a MX5100 4x4 with loader 3 weeks ago.It has the shuttle shift.I have used it about 4 hours and am very pleased.I bought a Woods BrushBull 720x last week and it handles it no problem. That cutter weighs over 1100lbs.I am looking forward to many hours in the seat. What part of the country are you in?

The MX 5100 appears to be a very good basic tractor with a few extras to make it really easy to use.

Here are some pics for those that are considering a L3800 vs. a MX5100. Pics show the front (L3800, MX5100, MX5100 with LA844 FEL), rear and the 'improved' 3PH on the MX5100

Man that is one "tough" looking tractor. I really like the extra features it has over the L3800 series. Not to mention what I could do on these big ole Branson rocks with that La844 loader. Dont get me wrong, I love my L3400HST, but there is always something you come up against and want "more". How much more in real money is it over the L3800?

In my part of the world, about $3400 or $2100 more for the mx4700. Reasonable in my mind for 35% increase in HP, added features, more than double lift capacity on fel and 35% more bucket capacity, etc.

My sene is now that this model has HST, Kubota will really be pushing this vs. The L4400 (which I believe is being discontinued?)

Thanks. Yes it does kinda make your mouth water, to get that much more capacity and some nice features like the 3pt extending links and telescoping sway bars, looks like a bargain to me.
