I know JD is getting out of the ATV business and they are closing out their Buck models. I'm looking at getting the 650 EXT and wanted to know what their past history has been. If anyone has any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Yes, the ATV market is really crowded and sales aren't red hot. JD is focusing there efforts in the UTV market where they are strong players. Expect to see more variations of the Gator in the next few years.

I am actually surprised they got into it in the first place. May have went well with the Gator product line but with all the new government controls coming up the ATV market I beleive will drop quite a bit. That is just my opinion.

Thanks guys for the responses. Is there anyone out there who actually owns one of the JD Bucks? Thanks

My Buddy had a Bombardier (same as your buck). It was a 650 too. It had decent power, and was a great workhorse, but for playing and trail riding I'd steer clear of it because its a straight rear axle quad, so its gonna ride like crap. There just made to yank some equipment around, and not really be super cumfy and fun. Bombardier dropped them because there wasn't a huge demand for a strictely work ATV. People want a cumfy atv that rides nice and can still get the work done.
They were solid ATV's though.

Thanks Deadman. Appreciate the info. Test drove a 650 EXT today. Is a bit of a beast for sure,807#.Not very nimble or manuevarable, but lots of power, guts and speed. Long wheel base feels very solid on hillsides.I'll be using it on mainly open pasture rather than trail riding so I think it will be just the ticket. The only thing that annoyed me was a slight clunk in the front end which I believe is from the progressively locking 4 wheel drive. I test drove three units and they all had it. Overall, at a $5000 closeout price I think it's a good deal!

Its actually about a 5 year old design, so its been out for a long time.
They'll pull like a mule, but like I say ride quality will be poor because of the straight axle.
It'll go over 60 Mph on hard surface no problem.

My wife and I both ride sportman 800 atv and I do have a Bombardier outlander 400, I am not very impress with the visco lok.

(you will see in the link below it takes a while before the wheel engages)
