[I have a 4310 EHydro. Recently, I have heard and felt a clunking (single clunk at a time) located pretty much directly under the seat. I am assuming this is the transmission area. It is almost like when something falls/slams into place. It does not appear to be related to going forward or reverse or what position the transmission is in (A, B, or C). The hydro fluid is spot on. Has anyone experienced the same problem or have any ideas. I don't have a problem hauling it into a dealer, just don't want to do that if it is an easy/simple fix. She is probably about due for a fluid change but I wouldn't think that would be the problem.

If you are changing the fluid yourself check for metal fragments at the strainer and in the filter. This will help diagnose potential serious problems.
Are there a lot of hours on the machine? Does the clunk happen one time or is it repetitive?

Have you been using the posi-traction much, any, or any feeling that it might be related?

She is due for a fluid change. I'll look close for any fragments. The clunk is normally a single item when it occurs. I believe she has about 1,200 hours.

Mine clunks a little when I shift into 4WD. Is anything else going on when this happens? Lifting 3ph, engaging PTO, is your parking brake set?

My 3320 clunked from underneath and everyone that i showed the noise to swore that it was from the trans. John deere techs wanted to disassemble to check it. My dad and i used chassis ears on the underside to pinpoint noise and it was actually fore and aft movement of front axle and would clunk the driveshaft into the trans. Found the frt axle pivot pin adj bolt loose so i torqued to spec and prob fixed. Since then i have read alot of the same prob and had same fix, but i am not sure if the same setup on your tractor
