Well, I finished rebuilding the hydraulics on my FIL's 9N last week and when I tried to drive it out of the garage, I couldn't get the clutch to disengage. It was only sitting in the garage for about 2 weeks. But, we've got 8 baby Rhode Island Red chicks in there, too and the heat and humidity are both up! I think it's stuck to the flywheel.

The clutch has been a PITA ever since I got the tractor, anyway. So, I ordered a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing. Should be here next week sometime.... I hope.

Any "gotcha's" that I should be looking out for??? The last tractor clutch job I was involved with was over 20 years ago on my Uncle's IH560.

Appreciate any feedback.

cut some wood wedges and block th front axle pivot.

if you have a floor jack.. roll the back away from the front.

hope the clutch was sent with an alighnment tool.. if not use the input shaft as a tool.. mind you need a new gasket for it. also good time to repalce the 5$ seal in the trans input shaft..

Never had to do a tear down on a frozen clutch yet...

Even the most difficult ones could be freed-up by driving around the yard with the pedal depressed.

The last one I started with the rear wheels raised just off the ground and had my brother drop the jack as I crawled forward at idle.

for ford stuck clutches.. I usually just set int he drivers seat. clutch blocked ( for a few days ).. brakes locked, ignition off, and in high gear. that's 3 for you, and use a remote starter switch to just keep bumping the starter over. might take 10-20 bumps.. but that usually free's them.

have pulled starter and sprayed breakemloose in before..and use a log prybar and poked and tapped before.. with some degree of sucess.

i know soem that have them stick frequently have use a hole saw to drill a hole in the bellhousing so they can slip in a long prybar screwdriver and pop it apart .. etc..

I had my wife drag me around the yard awhile with it in high gear - 3rd and over - it's got the Sherman tranny. I'd depress the clutch and hold it while moving (switch off, etc.) just made the rear wheels skid around and caused my wife to look back at me with a quizzical, slightly frustrated expression - to say; what are you doing???

The hydraulics are really, really rock-solid, now! Tractor is sitting out in the shed and the 3pt is still holding in the same position that I left it in about a week ago!

I don't know if my FIL ever, ever replaced the clutch, etc. So, I'm kinda just at a point that I'm gonna replace it and then I know...

Appreciate the info.

Tow never worked for me...

Driving it while goosing the throttle with the clutch depressed does... sometimes its happens the first time and once it took about 15 minutes.

It's the on and off throttle use that torques the disk... pulling in one direction wouldn't have any opposing force...
