My Cub is an '80 model 1200 bought used from a widow woman in 1994, it's equipped with a rear lift, lift assist, manual trans and creep gear. At present it has 650 hours on it. It's old but what the heck, it does a good job and shows no sign of being ready to retire. I use it to mow and till the garden. This will be the third time I've replaced the clutch drive plate and I'm weary of spending $80 to $90+ on parts. After the first time I thought the trouble was the worn (oil soaked) engine mounts. After the second time I replaced the "new" rubber mounts with the $40 urethane mounts. Now I suspect that the tiller may be the culprit what with the occasional tree root or stone shocking the driveline. So.....I'm set to put in the third new one but would like to find replacement parts at something other than (what I suspect is) list price. The only on-line parts service I looked at had it for $95, I'd like to do better than that! Can any of you direct me to a competitively pricing dealer? FWIW I think the part number is 117591C1. Also, and I realize this is an old mower but have any of you had this trouble in the past and found a cure for it other than just changing parts?

Thanks!
Scott

Why don't you get the clutch plate re-lined instead of buying a new one. Most automotive rebuilders can re-line a clutch plate. Then I believe I'd put a slip clutch on the tiller between the output shaft on the tiller and the driveline. You can get one of those online.

It's not the clutch plate, it's what for lack of a better description is the flywheel. It bolts to the crank, has a friction surface like a flywheel and has drive pins that engage the pressure plate, the clutch disk is, of course, in between the two. Makes me dream of hydrostatic.....................

Interesting setup. Hydrostatic is nice, but you will groan at a fluid change. I just paid $100.00 per pail for three pails of synthetic hydarulic fluid. Hydro's take a lot of fluid.
