Got the shaft into the clutch, but not the toothed part. Don't seem to want to go. SURELY the local Kubota dealer didn't sell me the wrong clutch. the diameter seemed perfect, but didn't check the splines. The L210 only had one clutch, right?

Anyway to check this without pulling pp, clutch and all back out?

Good Afternoon Murph,
What many guys do when installing a new clutch is to use a dummy shaft to align everything before trying to mate the transmission up with clutch pressure plate assembly. You might ask your dealer if you could borrow their alignment tool, that might be worth a try. You probablly have a slight mis alignment thats holding you up ! :(

Wish I could offer more help than that.

If you did get that tool, try loosening the assembly, install the alignment tool, and then try mating the tranny again...

I've read several threads on this and the one common word throughout is patience. It evidently is not always easy to do even with an alignment tool. You probably have the correct parts, but I agree with Scott, you need an alignment tool to do the job correctly. I would try this before I removed things again.

Do what was said above and if you engage your PTO with tranny in neutral bring the tractor halves together and turn the PTO shaft to line up the splines.

Thanks! I did make an alignment tool with my lathe. The pilot was 3/4 and the clutch was 13/16. I could have it out of alignment, though, so I'll try realigning it.

Another trick is to get Long bolts cut the head off thread them into trans or engine use as guides to match up both halves.

Yes Take a bolt with you get them long enough if they dont have them long enough get threaded rod.

Is this a dual stage clutch in this tractor? I helped a neighbor with a clutch swap on a MF 165 and we had a bear of a time with the clutch alignment. We had a clutch alignment tool and it still gave us fits. weended up using the tool but also accounting for the weight of the discs and pressure plate and had to set it a little higher and then confirmed with a visual inspection. Wealso spun the pto to allow the splines to sync up. Do not try to pull it together with the long bolt suggestion use them for alignment purposes only. If you try to pull it together it will punchthe center out of the clutch discs(neighbor tried this).
