clutch problem - 1500D

Hi. Could I have some advice for the following? I had to leave my 1500D outside for a couple of months, while building a new house. When I started it up the other day the clutch would not release. In other words, it didn't matter whether I pushed the pedal or not. I can put it in gear (with some grinding), but it immediately starts moving, whether I use the pedal or not. I'm ready to attempt whatever repair, but I'm lacking the experience to know what the likely cause is and how to remedy it. Thank you much!

The clutch disk has frozen/rusted to the pressure plate or flywheel. The remedy is to put a load on the rear wheels with the clutch depressed to pop it loose. You can try driving it with clutch in and slamming on the brakes, or push it up against something solid and bumping the starter with clutch in, or numerous other means. My YM2000B has a latch to latch the clutch pedal down when storing for long periods to prevent this from happening.

We just unstuck 3 tractors from our container. We hooked them up to a 5' brush hog and turned on the pto.
It only takes 2 seconds to pop it off the flywheel that way.

Norm,
Is that latch for your clutch added on or did it come that way?

Wouldnt it weaken the presure plate?

Just curious, it sounds like a good idea if it wont hurt the spring pressure.

The latch was from the factory. I understand that some earlier models actually came with a wooden stick in the toolbox for that purpose.

Not that you would notice over a 30 year period.
