My whizbang tractor mechanic replaced a part that moves the shifting mechanism inside the trans. I got it back with one inch of pedal travel at which the clutch is fully engages. Then I discovered I cannot get in to low range anymore. Here's the strange part, for me anyway, the high/low shift lever feels like it goes to the bottom of it's travel. there is no gear noise, pedal fully depressed. . When I release the clutch nothing happens, It's like it's in neutral. High range is ok. Prior to the trans. work, I often had to re-shift a time or two to get in to the low range. You could always feel the gears mating up before this.

SO, does this sound familiar to anyone? I noticed there is and adjustment bolt at the bottom of the clutch travel. If there is room to increase the clutch travel might that get me into low range? To make matters worse it's 120 bux round trip to get it to the shop. I really rather no do that.

Thanks if you and shed some light on this situation.

By now you know that it is not correct, get on the phone. It is not your fault and they should pay the freight to and from the shop for the second time. Get a lawyer if you can not stand up for yourself. You have done nothing wrong. Maybe the whiz bang guy can fix it at your place.

I tried that the guy is lying thru his teeth. He's by himself can't leave the shop. Plausible......I suggest sunday first he tells me how busy he is on sunday in the next breath he plays the church card. While I'm not religious, I think the ten good ideas are as good as any matrix to hang a society on. I wonder which part of do unto others he doesn't get. I'd rather fix this my self if possible. Lawyers are expensive, small town he fixes all the cop cars and ambulances. In a perfect world that wouldn't matter but you know the rest.

Could I get a hint or two about my description of the problem and the possible adjustment of the stop bolt?

Some additional info. I figured I'd try lowering the clutch pedal stop bolt. With the clutch in as far as it will go, it comes nowhere near the stop bolt. I only have about 60 ours in the seat so I don't really know how important that is. Is there someone who could at least tell me that? I figure it's there for a reason. Again with the tractor running I could move the hi lo shift lever down as far down as it will travel, let out the clutch and nothing happens. It looks like it's in the proper place when it's down as far as it will go. Can anyone please shed some light on this?

Ron,
I don't know what to tell you. I have a DK, not an LK. I don't have an owner's or service' manual for an LK. Another poster on one of your other threads said LK clutch adjustment is different from a DK, so the little I know doesn't apply. I do know any dry clutch should start to disengage near the top of the pedal movement to ensure it fully disengages when the pedal is on the floor and also there should be some "free play" in the pedal before the clutch starts to disengage. But your problem sounds more serious; you have clutch AND shifter problems. The main thing I can say is to take it to someone who knows what he/she is doing. Apparently that does not include the last guy you hired. Failing that, if you have a DIY streak, buy a service manual for your tractor.

It's difficult to say what's going on without tearing into the transmission again but you have two issues, adjusting the clutch will not make low range work.
You said he replaced a shift fork in the transmission already, now you have a issue with the hi low shift fork, either improperly assembled or out of adjustment.
It may just be a matter of adjusting the clutch or there could be issues with the clutch itself, If the tractor was split it may have been damaged on reassembly.

Scot, I not that much of a DIY person. But I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Winmac, there is a plate, maybe 8X10" on the driver's left just infront of and below the clutch pedal. The rod that was replaced went in thru that opening. In fairness, the guy who did the work, says he didn't get any where near the hi/low shifter area, he says it's in a different part of the transmission. He says the same about the clutch but I do not believe in coincidences, especially not imeadiately after the replacement of the rod that takes care of high range shifting. I don't get why the high range works fine and not the lo range. I am guessing; but I would think the low range is the same set of gears with some other gear on a shaft with two different sets of teeth that change the ratio on the same gears used in high range. It's a wild guess but It's all I have at the moment.

Scott you thought on the clutch pedal are pretty much what I was used to before the repair. As it is not I can not feel the resistence you encounter to move the clutch pedal in all the way.

Again, the is a plate on the pedal that matches up with the clutch stop bolt. That bolt is in the middle of it's range and the pedal comes no where near it when it reaches the end of it's current travel.
