Coil gone on HRR216

Anyone else have their ignition coil on their Honda HRR216 go after only 3 years?

Wouldn't start for the wife today. She ran the battery down then went to pull start. Started but then quit after just a little bit.

I checked for spark with an old timing light. Did not light up. Guess the ignition coil is bad. Looks like a $35-50ish item online. Bought it at John Deere. Will give them a call tomorrow morning.

Noticed that the starter would work with the coil off.

Crud on the coil apparently was shorting out signal to starter and maybe some primary voltage.

Cleaned crud off with air then carb cleaner. Put back on. Started up.

Note to cancel order for coil tomorrow. Keep order for new spark plug and air cleaner.
