Cold Engine

What can I do about my MF 50 have a hard time starting on a cold morning. It takes her 5 min to get going. And if I start more gas on it will stall?

Don't know if your parked near power or not. If so, you could go to your local auto parts store and get an in line lower radiator hose heater. Mine wouldn't start last winter on the first cold day so I picked one up for mine, it's made by KAT's. The one that fit my lower hose is model 14500 and cost about $20. Mine is parked in an unheated garage. I plug it in when I park it and even on the coldest day last winter she fired right up. I also got a magnetic heater I stick to the diesel fuel tank too.

mffarmall, Also if it is a gas engine you could bump up the timing a few degrees , that would help also... and does it have a choke? (gas only)... My neighbors 50 is gas...

Any diesel that doesn't have glow plugs, I would want an engine heater installed of some kind. There are several different types. There are engine block heaters, an in-line heat for the lower radiator hose and the the box type. I prefer the box type because it circulates the water through the engine any time it is on. The only draw back to the box type is having a place to mount it since it is a little large and needs to be low on the frame.

I just checked my in line lower hose heater. It runs at 140 Degrees F and due to its location in the lower hose convection does circulate the antifreeze slowly through the block. I removed the radiator cap and visually saw the fluid moving. Also the newer diesel tractors glow plugs (like newer trucks as well) heat up to 1800 deg. in about 3 seconds. The 140 deg. engine temp makes for easy starts in cold temps.
