Rubber tires break at those temperatures.

I've never lived in a place that cold. I have lived in cold places - Glennallen, AK - don't take offense Doofy. The unreal thing - how much more of your time and energies are devoted to keeping everything warm and operating.

I have never lived anywhere to the extreme - only Virginia, England, and Germany. The hottest place I have visited - Sudan. The coldest? Probably Germany or Maine - maybe Switzerland in the Alps. I guess I have never really spent time in anything lower than -10 or so.

Here in VA also, I saw -20F (~ -29 Celsius) on 2 different thermometers one morning.

Spent some time in Antartica and it could get a tad cool, on a fine sunny day with no wind we would walk around in shorts and T shirts despite it being well below -30F, this was in the late 60's and we were conducting experiments with GPS.
Hottest place I recall was Colombo in Sri Lanka (Ceylon then), I thought it was the heat of the engines when we disembarked but soon realised that is was just a typical day at about 130, thankfully it was just a refuelling stop.

Coldest I have been in is -36F and that was crazy cold. The woodstove was cranking. I can't imagine another 30 degrees colder.

During the real cold around here, I am always impressed with how vehicles are built to be able to operate in it and also in super hot conditions. Hard to believe they last as they do.

The coldest I have seen here in northern Maine was 55 below . We had a frost in low areas this morning( June 22 ) , I was very fortunate as it didn't hit my garden like it did a few days ago and killed all my tomato plants that I had covered over with pails .
