Started the PT 425 this morning about 45 F. backed out of the PT shed pushed to go forward and the machine moved very slowly. The machine would travel about 1/4 speed forward and a little faster in reverse. When the fluid warmed a little the machine worked normally.. Is this a problem or just cold hydraulic oil causing this.. Did anybody else notice this since the weather is getting colder.

Clarke,

Yes, this is a normal thing with PT. I have 2 of the larger diesel machines and mine will do this as well. Just take it easy and cycle all of your cylinders a few times and all will be fine. As soon as the engine warms up, it will help the hydraulic system warm up fairly quickly. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I haven't had that problem at 45, but under 35 I do have to let it warm up a few minutes. All I do is start it up and let it run at about 1/3 throttle for a few minutes, then cycle the loader up and down and tilt a few times and off I go.

In really cold weather in winter, I will set the brakes and put down pressure on the plow then(yes, I know, contradicting my pro-safety stance here) get off and go shovel the front steps and walkway. That takes all of five minutes. By that time, the PT is warm and ready. I alway push the treadle forward and backwards to check that the brakes are holding, too.
