My 1987 755 needed a battery charge after sitting out overnight during a cold snap. I used the trickle battery charger, and also fired up the Salamander, aimed into engine compartment, to warm things up, SOP for me after a really cold wintry night. It then started, engine running fine, but I wasn't able to get to the driveway snowplowing right off, because the hydraulic transmission was in 'creep' mode, because of the cold. Not that unusual, It usually snaps out of this after a minute or two when cold, but not today. So i parked it and left it idling, so as to continue to warm things up, went inside for some coffee. When I came back out after about 20 minutes, I didn't hear it running. I started it, it caught immediately, sounded good, but then died within a second or two. Repeated this about a dozen times, it starts with a nice roar, and then dies. I noticed that while the ignition yellow light came on when I turned the key to the accessory position, the plug heater and oil lights did not come on, and the fuel guage needle did not move, each time I turned the key. the headlights turned on ok. This is new and different for me.
Any thoughts on what is going on? This may have nothing to do with the cold weather, because my usual cold weather starting procedures initially worked just fine.

Sounds like ice in fuel line.

Sounds like a fuel issue.. when it starts and then shuts down.
Change the fuel filter and clean the sediment bowl. Then put some additive like SeaFoam in the tank. There are others too.

For the creep mode, maybe water in the hydraulic transmission fluid.. you can decide how long since tranny oil and filter has been changed out.. if over two years, and setting out in the cold winter.. could be condensation problem.

How cold is it now?

How new is your battery? Are you using winter fuel? Your battery may be weak and your fuel may be gelling up. Kerosene can be added also to your fuel to help. If it is really cold maybe as much 25%. Power service also makes a rescue 911 for fuel that is already gelled.

Electrical problem.. Maybe checking out some things in the service tech manual will help.
