There are a lot of utility vehicles here at the base I am on. It is probably a 50/50 split between the Rangers and Gators with a light sprinkling of the heavy duty Club Car utility vehicles. I have seen a few different tire configurations on them too. This was a new one for me. Of course with these tires the wheels on the middle axle had to removed, but you see the wheels removed on a lot of the Gators and Rangers regardless of the tire size. I haven't asked why yet. I have two theories. It could be lack of tires or difficulty getting through the supply system particularly for the Rangers because they are not in the Army system like the M-Gators. My other theory is to possibly reduce the turning radius.

On my gator the middle tires always come off during fair season. Less tire scrub driving across grassy areas, better ride. The turning radius is actually a little larger

Hmm, I see that the Army hasn't changed since I got out in 1993. They still lock steering wheels with a piece of chain and a padlock.

I to remove my middle tires during the dry season on my Gator. It does seem to increase the turning radius a little bit.

Hmmm Look at the steering wheel. A piece looks like it is missing. Looks as someone may have lost the key to the padlock and had to cut it to removed the chain and lock. LOL

I have no idea. I have seen a few with tires so big on the back that they were almost rubbing. This is not the first one I have seen with the bed missing. Oddly enough it has been only the Gators with missing beds. The one in the picture has a lockable metal box in place of the bed. With the Gators, the majority are the normal 6X4 desiel Gators, then there are some Military Gators, the one pictured appeared to be a Trail Gator. I have seen 1 HPX and a couple of the 4 wheeled gas Gators.
