No not a Jimmy Buffet song. Come Monday I will be the proud owner of a new Mahindra. I went with the 6000 4x4 with a FEL, QA Plate, and a bale spear. I also picked up a new Vermeer Rebel 504 round baler and a new 8ft cut disc mower. Now I've got to get out and beat the bush and find some more hay to cut.

$22500 for the 6000 4x4 w FEL, $395 for QA plate, and $295 for the bale spear. As I said I traded in on it so I probably coulda bought a little cheaper. Rebel baler was $11500. Can't wait!

You done good! I know I'm gonna get flamed here but the truth is the truth, If that tractor had been green, you would have spend over $35000 for it. As it is , you got a great tractor and the Rebel for what a Deere tractor would have cost out the gate. Oh....We need pictures!! BobG in VA

That's not true at all Bob. That tractor is similiar to a 5205 from Deere. A mfwd 5205 with a loader could be had for around $23k pretty easily. This tractor is a couple hp under the 6000. If you went up to the 5320 which is 5 more pto hp then you are looking at about $27k. Nowhere near $35k. Heck the 5420 with a cab, loader and everything I bought awhile back was only $35k. I think you should get your #'s straight before you badmouth a brand. You could also get the lower JD baler for just a little more than the rebel baler as well.

The JD prices might depend a bit on area and dealers eagerness to sell. The green ones are high around here.

I still stick to my original statement. Once you add all the "options" to the green such as you can't even get tires as big on the 5205 as the 6000. The 6000 is a 4 cyl vs the 3 cyl JD, remotes come standard on the 6000, option on the JD, 250lbs of front weights come standard (even with the FEL), I think they are options for the JD, Synchonized Shuttle shift is standard on the 6000. Oh and it weighs about 8000 lbs with the FEL which, if I'm not too far off is way (weigh) heavier than the deere, therefore being able to use the avail HP more efficiently. My $.02 worth. Not trying to start a fight here just the facts. BobG in VA

Suit yourself but you're not comparing apples to apples. A Mahindra doesn't have near the quality of a JD. And remotes etc. are also standard on deere models. And the weights are very close as well. As far as tires you can get just about whatever you want on a deere. If you want to state facts then fine state facts but all you've stated is opinion. I certainly respect your opinion that a Mahindra is better but don't hold it out as the facts.

Just priced the 5320 with equal options to the Mahindra on the JD web site and it came to $33600 without loader.

Just priced the loader minus the control valve at $5140.00 still wading through the myriad of valve combinations.

Ok now just for the heck of it,I went to the Deere site to investigate a bit. The spec pages for the 5205 would not work so I could not check the exact specs on the tractor(do not really know much about these ones). But I do have a few questions about it. The Mahindra has a 8/8 shuttle as standard,what about the Deere? The Mahindra has a 4 cylinder engine,where I do believe the Deere has a 3. The Mahindra has 11.2x24 tires standard,Deere has 9.5x24. both have 16.9x28 rears. Ok so I went on to the price configurator. As near of a base stock nearest match I could do....the Deere came out at a MSRP of $25,990 and a 521 loader at $4,322,for a grand total of $30,312 with out Freight,Dealer PDI, loader fitting,etc......Which would put the Deere over $31,000+ very quickly,probably closer to the $35,000 price mentioned earlier.

Now the Mahindra lists some where in the low $20,000s and the loader around high $3,000s.

The only thing I was unsure of in this price comparison is how the loader on the Mahindra is operated. I figure it is a joy stick with power beyond. The Deere was priced with the mid scv/joystick package for loader fitment.

Cannot speak for others, only myself.

I HAVE owned green before. It broke about as often as the red ones did, no more, no less.

I DID try a new green piece and ask a lot of questions before I bought.

I COULD afford the green piece if I thought it was the best value.

Evidently in my opinion, it was not. Now I own Mahindra Red.

Green make really good stuff, but others do also.

You are correct about the joystick on the Mahindra. I paid $21,142 with ML 264 loader (78" bucket) and loaded rear tires. OK, this in not an opinion. This is a fact. Guys, the thread was about a gentleman that bought his 6000 and asked about them regarding haying. My OPINION is he got a heck of a tractor to do the work that he needs done at a real bang for the buck, as I said he can get the tractor/FEL and baler for the price of the Deere alone. I think that fact has now been established. Nuff said. BobG in VA

If you really believe that a Mahindra is anywhere close to being the quality of a John Deere or even Kubota for that matter then there's really nothing to talk about. All you have to do is look at them side by side and drive them both to tell that. There's a reason that they aren't priced as high as kubota or deere. Might be an ok tractor for a small acreage but let's see how one holds up to some real work and how they are still doing after 5 or 6 thousand hours. Or put one up to some real punishing work day after day and let's see if they hold up like a deere or a kubota will. Pretty funny when I price the tractors I get a much lower price. Like I said compare apples to apples. Also how many of you pay list price when you go out and buy a new car? You can always get 15-30% off of list. If you can't there are lots of dealers around that will give it to you if you shop around.
