common tires on compact tractors

I was looking at some different tires and noticed that 17.5l is wider but about 3 inches less in diameter and 7 inches less in circumference than the 16.9. I was looking at firestone site - All Traction Utility R-4 Tire - Firestone Commercial

Is this pretty common that the 16.9 is that much larger around and would you prefer the 17.5 because it would have the tractor riding lower- less tippy perhaps? I noticed the larger LS XR series use the 17.5l.

Ah - well - I guess your question is in regard to no specific tractor. For added stability - on my M6040 - I have widened the front and rear tire stance and added Rim Guard to the rear tires. Its very important that the proper tire size ratio is maintained - front tires to rear tires - if you are talking 4WD.

Actually - in a situation where you are in a state of unbalance - the height difference between the 16.9 vs 17.5 - is going to provide an added safety margin, only in your mind. You best not rely on the difference in height between those two tires - you better do something pro-active and RIGHT NOW or you are on your way over.

Low profile

So yes, its common.

Car tires have THREE units of measurement. Width....sidewall height / diameter / aspect ratio......and rim diameter.

Tractor and industrial tires have 2....just width and rim diameter with no designation for height. But it is pretty standard.

The L is a designation for a low profile tire. A 19.5L tire is about the same as a 16.9 standard tire. So if you want width at the same height....gotta jump to the 19.5L's.
