Buying Advice Compact 45hp range

Hello, I own a tree company and currently use a New Holland TC45DA. It has worked very well for this application, moving and loading heavy logs, loading small to medium size trees into chipper and moving equipment around on job sites. The weight of the tractor has been good in that it is great in yards and does not tear them up. I have looked at a MF1742H and a JD 4044R. At this point I like the 4044R however I have seen a few bad reviews. I am looking for something in this size and range. Any advise on what is the best tractor this size out there? I’m running an LS xr4040 with a grapple and it’s been great for clearing land and getting logs to and up on the sawmill. With the industrial tires I haven’t had an issue with damaging the lawn.

It is heavy, and handles 26” oak logs up to 10’ in length with ease.

I can’t speak to the JD or MF models you mentioned as I haven’t run those, but I do believe the LS is a good tractor given the cost and extras they include.

I have been looking at the Mahindra 2545, this year it changed number to 2645, and I am really impressed with what it is for the price. It is a heavier machine but don't believe that it will be to hard on yards. I like the power yet is still very compact for getting in and out of tight areas. The Yanmar YT347 or Kubota L4760 would both be excellent choices. Both offer excellent transmissions, a great deal of additional features, and Japanese quality. Both are built in-house in Japan and are not rebadged assemblages of outsourced parts.

i spent two days this week looking at cab tractors 50hp. I came down to the Kioti and Mahindra. I am going with Mahindra due to the quality of materials. I did take the time to video the tractors I was interested in and come home and watch them again. I looked at a cabbed LS and it was not my pick. It does not mean it cannot be your pick. What I did notice on some of these tractors was how far the bucket stuck out. This may be good for loading a truck but for me I do driveway work and it made the tractor too long. Now I am old and I am sure it was long on the boomer but not so sure on the LS. I would also think that leverage would play against it and make it lift less. I also saw this on the Kubota I was looking at. That alone took them out of contention. I will say this. I did not see a tractor I did not like just some I liked better than others.

I was in the same predicament a few weeks ago. I looked at Kioti, NH, JD, Yanmar and Kubota. I currently have a JD 770 ( re branded Yanmar ) and it has been a really good machine. JD was at the top of my list due to this and there dealer network. The JD just costs too much money ( 36k ) for what you get. They want to nickel and dime you for everything it seems like too. Rear remotes, R4 tires, and a brush guard with the loader are not standard equipment.

The Kubota MX series are nice machines, but for 31k I'd expect them to have some bells and whistles such as cruise control, ePTO, rear remotes, and to not have turn buckles on the back to adjust the three point. I wasn't too keen on the treadle peddle also.

The Kioti NX4510HST was a nice machine but the local dealer was only willing to make me a deal on a machine that has been sitting on the lot for at least a year. No thanks. That kinda put a sour taste in my mouth about Kioti.

The NH ( re branded LS ) machine was nice but they don't have hydro stat in there higher HP Workmaster series. You have to jump into the Boomer series. The salesman told me they start out at 35k.

I ended up purchasing a Yanmar YT347 because it has some of the bells and whistles ( cruise control, brush guard, rear remotes, loaded R4 tires ) I'd expect from a machine in that class and I got one heck a deal on it. From what I was told and have read, Yanmar makes the machine soup to nuts. They are built in Japan and then brought over to the us to have tires attached, fluids put in and tested. I am not a fan of the styling but you have to take the good with the bad. Yanmar supplies diesel engines for JD and various other companies too. I also liked that the engine is a 4 cylinder non turbocharged engine vs a 3 cylinder turbo charged engine in some of the models I was looking at. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I can’t see any reason to consider the New Holland. You get more tractor, better warranty, and more features buying direct from LS. $35k for a Boomer? I paid $35k for a new 68hp cabbed power shuttle LS with loader and two rear remotes.
IMO, I would buy a Yanmar instead of the similar Deere for similar reasons.

I narrowed my choice down to a Kubota L6060 or Massey Ferguson 1758. I have a Massey GC1710 that is an amazing little SCUT. My good experience with that, along with poor dealer interactions with Kubota led me to buy the Massey 1758. I run an 8' twin spindle brush hog, front loader and grapple, box blade, and logging winch.
