Explain to me again why I cannot buy a nice 4 cylinder Toyota 3.0L common rail DI diesel in a Toyota Tacoma. It really fries me that the US with all its "wisdom" is about the only freakin country that won't let them in. Will ULSD change things. The Toyota Tacoma petrol (gas for those of you in Rio Linda) version is nice but it is about as thirsty as any full size truck. My Ford F250 is FIFYD. (found in front yard dead). Its nickel and diming me to the point of frustration. I want a compact and a diesel with decent economy. Is that to much to ask for $30,000 of taxed income!

I would think with ULSD available now that most all the diesel offerings that have not been available to the US market til now will become available.

It looks like the Tacoma's (that's the little one isn't it?) days may be numbered though...Toyota is going for the full-size market now.

Numbered? no, not a chance!

Word is that Cummins is coming up with two small V8 Diesels. A 4.x and a 5.x. I think it's two years out though.

Growing up we only had diesel cars and pickups, both Isuzu... The p'up (there term for pickup same as the Chevy Luv) and the I-mark were both great on fuel economy, around 50 to 55 mpg..

As a teen you could ride around all weekend and it wouldnt cost you hardly a thing..

I wish they would bring some small diesel stuff back

You're not the only one who thinks that way... Go on Ebay and check out how much the 1980's diesels are selling for. I've seen early 1980's Toyota pickup trucks selling for over $5000 and VW Rabbits going for $3000 to $4000!

My first car at age 16 was a 1982 Datsun diesel pickup... bought it for $225, and sold it a few years for $650! Been hooked on compact diesels since, (had a Ford Tempo diesel and a Chevette diesel too) but nothing is really available for purchase new from the big three today. :(

VW makes a small three cylinder diesel that gets 65 mpg. I'd love to see that car sold in the U.S... Better yet, how about GM or Ford selling a similar vehicle? While they're at it, I'd like a Ranger diesel available again! :)

I was on the Toyota/Australia website and they have the diesel option in the 4X4 4 door manual or automatic. Suprisingly, it does not add that much to the cost.

I would love to see a Duramax Suburban, a diesel VW Toureg, a diesel 1/2 ton from anybody, and/or a diesel sedan!

I thought a Ram2500 shortbed xcab with a Cummins was a compact :D

I think I am the only one on this board that gets this :D Actually, I was born in Orangevale, and lived in Shingle Springs for years now. I can tell you though, where to go for coffee(Rio Java), or a sandwhich(Tummy's) in Rio Linda. Or, for a full meal, go to BG's. Now, all this is in old town Rio Linda, of course :D

It is a shame about small diesels. Although I am not in the market, I think it is a good line of auto's to have. What gets me, is some countries have tight emissions, and good safety requirements. They could bring them in here... It is just big business that shuts them out. Just like US "Big-3" hybrids and electrics.
