Ilove my DOLMAR 6800 to death, but i have a chance to sell it .The reason is i have no more local dealers[THE ONE AND ONLY PRO LOGGING DEALER RETIRED] and have to drive 100 miles if anything goes wrong[or even to get a filter].Ihave a neice whos boyfriend is looking for a saw in the woods and is willing to give me 200 for it[more than i paid used 5 years ago].My use for this saw is cutting big wood and firewood .Ilimb and do smaller stuff with my stihl 028,but the doLMAR is a beast and eats through big wood like its butter.
I need to know what is a comparable saw to this My choices would be stihl or husky.Iwant something that has similar power and cant seem tO figure out what the hp or rpm is on the DOLMAR.At least an 18 inch bar a must.
0 PROBLEMS WITH THE dolmar SINCE I OWNED IT and i do realize i have to add 3-4 hundred to get a comparable machine
AM I FOOLISH OR SHOULD I UPGRADE TO SOMETHING MORE POPULAR???

My guess is the 372xp would be about the same in a Husky, not sure about stihl. If buying new you're looking at around $600 plus the $200 you sell your Dolmar for. If it was me I doubt I would sell it. If I felt it was a good saw I would just keep it and save the money, maybe find a used 372xp in good shape. If I didn't think it was going to last I wouldn't sell it (certainly not to someone I knew).

You are absolutly crazy if you sell it. And especially for only $200. I wish I could find a deal like that around here.

The ps6000 and 6800 are the same as the dolmar 116si and 120si saws. They just updated the model # around 1995. And they made them up until 01 or 02 when they came out with the ps6400, 7300, and 7900 platform.

The They also made them in makita blue 6000 and 6800. They were 60cc and 68cc. The 60cc saw was 4.15HP and the 68cc saw (what you have) comes in at 4.7HP.

Typically I see the older 120si go for ~200 on ebay. If yours is in great shape and newer, it should be worth more than that.

And when it comes to parts, like filters and such, just mail order the stuff. A lot of dealers are willing to ship parts. As well as ebay.

As already mentioned, to get a saw of that caliber today is going to cost you some serious $$$. Husky doesnt have any saws in the 60cc range. They jump from the 357xp to the 372xp. The 357xp will be slower and the 372 will be faster. Stihl also doesnt have a 60cc pro saw. They go from the 361 @ 59cc to the 441 @ 71cc. The smaller two (357 and 361) are still $600 saws. The larger of the two makes (372 and 441) are $800 saws.

Again, just my opinion, but I would keep it. But if you really want to sell for $200, what would it cost ya to ship to ohio?????:D

I would not sell that saw for $200. I sold my Stihl MS290, which is a lesser saw in both power and built quality and I got $250 for it.

Yep, worth every bit of what you paid for it. But hey, if anytime in the furure you still decide you want to make $50 on it, I would probabally still be willing to pay you $200 plus shipping:D

And yes, they are wood cutting beasts. Do you happen to know how old it is. They made them from somewhere around 1995 up until like 2001 or 2002. It sometimes says on the serial # plate.

And BTW, do you have any pictures of that beast?? I have never actually seen a 6800 in person. Just the 120si's and the makita 6800's.

Yep, looks identical in everyway to the 120si.
I was actually going to as if it was a 6800i. Cause I dont think the made just a 6800.

The I stands for injection carb. Meaning it doesnt have a choke butterfly. Rather the 1/2 twist knob opens a enrichening jet on the carb to directly dump a little more fuel. Kinda like some of the motorcycles of the 80's.

That is the easiest way to tell a regular 120 and 120super appart from a 120si.

Can you spot the 120si?? That one is actually dads. This pic is before they all got stolen about a year ago.

No the one in the middle is the 120si. Which is the same as the 6800i, but the 120si is the older model # designation.

And no the two saws on the left are both dolmar 7900's. The two on the right are husky's though. A 266se and a 136.
