Hi guys and gals,

I have browsed the forums often and am still doing so, but never posted before. I figured I would stop lurking and make a post.

I am reading and searching a lot, but so many posts I find are from 2007-2011, and I wanted a more current evaluation.

A couple friends of mine have Mahindras. They are awesome and we have a real good time clearing land with them, but it is getting time for me to be more self-reliant and get my own.

I have about 330 acres of SW Texas land and we use the tractors to clear brush etc.

I have been looking at lots of places with "package deals" etc.. and I see great prices on TYMs and Bransons, and the Mahindras are like $100 or more a month if you finance them, for comparable models.

So, I figured to get the take on the TYM and Bransons from here.

I was looking at the 4wd, 40-50HP models with a CAB, for A/C.. heh.. figured $100 a month is well worth the ability to utilize the tractor in 90-100 deg weather and such more often ;)

I am also told running into a bee hive is much nicer when they "plink" off a windshield vs your face :p

I think I looked at the TYM t503 (on paper) or the TYM T433. I am not sure if the Mahindra is worth as much as they are asking, in a comparison. I think they had a 41hp for like 100 more a month (they did not have totals on the website, just monthly financing payments and I did not want to call anyone yet as I do not want the sales calls all the time until I am ready to buy)

Anyway, all the posts I saw on TYM scared me off.. "always leak", "parts are junk" "bad warranty / service"...but they were all older posts.. so.

Can anyone clarify if the TYM line is worth looking at and/or is the Mahindra CAB lines comparable in both price and functionality?

Thanks!

Russ

FYI...

TYM builds some of the Mahindra tractors. For example, the TYM T503 & 603, are the Mahindra 5010/6010. Mahindra has a stronger loader (on paper anyhow) but the TYM has more standard features. It comes down to dealer network between the two.

Branson has a small following but the people seem to like them.

Also checkout LS for a great value.

NH and Case are made by LS, so unless you're getting a much better dealer experience, no reason to buy them over the LS badge.

Don't forget to checkout Kubota, Kioti, Massey, Deere, etc ... before you buy anything. Never know which one you'll fall in love with.

I have been reading your posts a lot today.. heh.. nice Tractor in the pic;)

Thanks for the input. I will look at all of them. I am trying to refi my ranch to pay the cabin off, should take us about a few weeks, and then I have approval to get a tractor ;)

I know the 28hp Mahindra that we use out there does great on most clearing, so a 41-50hp should have no problem. Digging out there is pretty rough.. but a backhoe would be useful to dig up rocks and clear them out of small areas.

This statement says a lot!

I looked hard at the Mahindra and TYM as well as others when I was looking and when it comes right down to it I would have taken the TYM over the Mahindra. Basically the same machine for less. The problem out here is the dealer network for TYM is so small in this area that I felt more comfortable going with Kioti. For the record none of the Mahindra dealers inspired confidence in me when I was looking so for me going with Mahindra or TYM was about the same as far as dealer support would be concerned.

I didn't read too much bad on the TYM503 but did find lots of problems with some of their smaller machines that would scare me away from anything smaller than the 353. An other thing I did when looking at old posts of problems was to see what happened since, did the company step up and fix the problem, did they stand behind their product and also look at the problems other companies had as a comparison.

cool beans, all good info.

I like their Mahindras, but I was seeing "package deals" with a Mahindra 4025 for like 369 a month (as an example) but I could get a TYM 503 for 368 a month.. given the choice, if they were both good tractors, heck.. why not get the 503, right?

Just browsing still, but had no real comparison to go by ;)

Been reading the site all day, so having a fun time shopping and learning ;)

I do not know what a "small area" is in TEXAS but in Florida a Bucket Spade will clear rocks out of what we call small areas. Save yourself $7,000 and keep your Three Point Hitch available, unless you really discern a requirement for a Backhoe.

Isn't Round Rock just outside Austin? You should have every tractor brand available nearby.

That looks pretty cool.. heh

Well, we were using the backhoe to clear rocks out of the parking area. I suspect that the bucket spade would handle most everything out there.

I agree with you though... 7000 for the backhoe would probably not be worth the investment. All I really want to be able to do is fix the roads and knock down the smaller cedars for land clearing.

I think spending a little on an Auger might be worth it, but not sure how they would handle drilling through rock up to 6" diameter.

Oh, and by rocks, I mean this type of area...

My neighbor and I teamed up to excavate wild rose corms this morning, using the Bucket Spade. Some were up to 60 pounds, daisy-chained together 24" below ground. The Bucket Spade popped them to the surface with one, two or three stabs. Probably dug 600 pounds total, today.

Bucket Spade is 110 pounds of steel, so you do not have to baby it.

You do need a reasonably robust bucket to support it. An optional "light materials" bucket will not do.

Sorry, missed the part about Round Rock.

Yes, I live there, but if you google tractors, you really only come up with like 2 dealerships. I am sure there are more, but I need to try and learn a little more so I do not sound like too much of a "sucker" when I visit one of the places.

Also trying to research them because they can all be nice before you buy, curious how they are after you buy.

Heck, one place would not give me any information unless I came into the place.
