tractor will not start unless I leave the block heater plugged in at all times. I can shut it off for up to an hour while doing hand work and it will start back up. anything longer then a few hours and it will not start.

did not plug in the other day and went to start it. cranks and cranks and then it seems that the engine binds and starter will not crank engine. panel lights will go dim when I turn the key to glow plug position or not light up at all. NKG QGS controller will make clicking sound, starter will click but not spin. sometimes I hear the fuel pump load up as it should, other times it does not activate at all.

possible problems I'm considering:

1. ignition switch over heating or malfunctioning

2. NKG QGS controller bad

3. Fuel injectors are not functioning properly, and need to be replaced.

Things I've checked; all fuses in panel and "in line." Battery is fully charged, even when starter won't turn.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I think I'm going to start with replacing the injectors, then the QGS controller, then?

First thing clean your ground cable connection and meeting point were the cable meets the frame. Be sure you have 12vs getting to the starter.. im betting you do though.

Sounds to me that the controller is bad. This is totally up to your own decision but to know for sure manually put 12v strait to the glow rail on top of the engine while the key is on. The light should light up and it should fire with no issue.

How many hours on your tractor? Is the glow plug rail powering up? Have you checked the ohm's of the glow plugs? Caution :alert: if you have bad injectors and your loading the cylinders with fuel you can bend connecting rods. Thats possibly why it cranks at speed first then binds up.

thanks Navasot, I will try that tonight after work. so....run a conductive wire from the positive battery terminal straight to the glow rail? is there a particular spot on the rail that I should connect to?

If you have a test light or can borrow one, connect one end to ground or -post of batt. put the other end on the glow plug rail. Turn on the key or to glow position. Lamp should light.

Caution :alert: Glow plugs draw a lot of amps. Make sure you use a heaver gauge wire if you are attempting this. :fiery:

Yes but you wont have to leave it on so don't clamp crank and let it sit.... just enough to get juice to the plugs. use at least the same size wire as whats leading to the rail and touch it at the same place with the hot wire... be very careful

The 2616 glo-plug timer, and glo-plugs have been upgraded to a 10 second timer to better heat the plugs. It was about a $200.00 upgrade when I did it several years ago. I suspect the upgrade will solve your problem. You can get the kit from Mahindra.
