I have a engine drive compressor. It’s a Deere made by mi-t-m. 29 cfm at 175 psi I think. They had some in stock like your talking about with a generator head and one was a welder too...that might’ve been the same machine. Looked like nice built stuff. As for my compressor I love having such big air quickly and portable. I don’t think you’ll go wrong with the Deere stuff either. I asked the parts guys what they’d charge me and I think I got 15% off. To me was a great deal

The first thing you have to do to pick a compressor is determine what you need it for.
Some tools are air HOGS, others not so much.
Size matters.

I have one installed on my service truck. Had an all inclusive control panel installed in the cabinet with the hose reels and evac pump. Works great and saves space since there isn't a need for a separate welder, generator.

My unit fills a separate 30 gallon air tank mounted in the bed of the truck next to the oil and waste oil tanks. And fills the tank fast. Takes about a minute to fill the tank from empty to 125 psi. My Quincy air compressor in the shop takes about 5 times as long.

Has a 120 amp DC welder which we haven't had an opportunity to try yet, and 5kw gen set.

I have had two issues with it.

First, it uses an adjustable length belt for one of the pulleys. Can't remember off my head which one it powered. Belt was adjusted a little long so it tossed it in the middle of a job. Removed one link out of the belt and that took care of the issue.

The second issue was the pop off for the air compressor. Since the unit doesn't get used as much as it should (40 hrs in 2 years). And the fact that it's mounted to the truck, and exposed to the elements, the pop off sticks closed occasionally so it will continue to build air past it's set pressure.

So on initial start up for the day, you have to monitor the air pressure to make sure it pops at the specified psi. If it doesn't then you need to shut it down, and clean and lube the pop off valve.

Dftodd. Have you met Howard Hargis has a used tractor parts sales west of Jacksonville.

And at end of the Korean "Police Action" of Truman doing repair of damaged equipment we used a compressor that used a flat headed Ford V/8 engine. ran on 4 cylinders and compressor reeds on 4 cyl.. then if needed a welder or generator attached to flywheel with hand clutch to use. a lot of hours and sometimes needed to oil the reeds to get a pressure seal.
The truck 6X6 and don't remember type of engine it had. also had a metal lathe and carried all needed tools to repair heavy Equipment.

sounds like your set up is good idea.

No idea who he is. I also didn't know that there was a used tractor parts place near by. Might have to take a drive some weekend and see what kind of gems I can find :D
