computer chip car keys

I was able to get a chip key cut and programmed at a locksmith for $78 about a year ago. This was for a Dodge Neon.

I am a locksmith If You need to get transponder keys made & programmed go to www.keypro.info . In the public area there You can find a locksmith to help you. You should be able to save some money verses going to the stealership.

they can be 100-250$ from the dealer.. but don't loose hope.. just find a locksmith with a chip duplicator.

they literally cut the key, lay it on a tablet.. let it get scanned, then program the new one.

locksmith in town does em for 25-28$ or cheaper if you get multiples.. he's the one that makes the key dupes for tour local ford dealership across the street from the locksmith.. who happens to be setup 1 door down from the dmv ( right by the dmv is an insurance agent.)

I'd say both them guys understand 'location, location, location!!

I bought a used 2000 Explorer at a farm auction a few years ago, and it's been one of my best auction buys. Great car, I'm very happy with it. But it only came with one key, and I like to have spare keys. Plus, it's electronic locks sometimes lock the doors by themselves. It's the only vehicle I have where I can't leave the keys in the ignition on my farm. Shortly after I bought it, I went to our local hardware store to have duplicate keys made, and they told me the key was a computer chip key, that you can only buy from Ford, and they're very expensive (something like $100/key). I hate having to be so careful with that one key, and really want at least one duplicate (perferably several duplicates).

Are the duplicate keys really that expensive? Is there any other place to buy them?
