I have benn using SPYBOT S/D for some time now. I recently ran a scan and it found DSO EXPLOIT i clicked on fix problem and it showed as fixed, but the nextime i ran the san the same DSO EXPLOIT showed up, the scans were done one after the other, i tried 2 or 3 times and it still shows up. any way to fix this? without messing with the registry?

Frank, You might have some luck with Adaware .... I use both of them ,but the Spybot sees adaware as a potential problem but it still works good, so if one doesn't do it try the other.... Mark

I'm setting up a new pc in my business right now. I asked my business software provider what they recommend (besides XP Pro and Norton A V) and he gave me the links to Spybot, Adaware and one by MS that is the only one that updates itself. They all have to do with spyware. Apparently you need a bunch /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I can send the link if you need it when I get back in the office.

Spybot ver 1.3 has a problem where it keeps reporting the exploit. Ver 1.4 corrects the problem. The DSO exloit is actually a security hole in Internet Explorer. If you have applied all of the service packs and patches your safe from the exploit even if Spybot reports it.

I've switched from AdAware and Spybot S&D to Webroot Spysweeper. I had several problems that the first two didn't fix, and Webroot was able to do so. I did have to boot in Safe Mode and run Spysweeper. There is a free 30 day trial version on their website.

I run, Spy Bot, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Spyware Doctor, Spy Sweeper, Trend Micro Anti Spyware, Privacy Crusader Full, Pest Patrol, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spyware Blaster, Norton Anti-Virus. I have found that each of these programs finds something different each time they run. My wife likes to play games on the computer and it seems that after she has been on the computer, it can come to a screeching halt until I run these programs to clean up all the spyware cookies that it seems to acquire. Time to get her her own computer.

I'm a big supporter of AVG Antivirus (updates daily), which you can get free for personal use at home. The Professional is very inexpensive as well if you want it for your business. Both versions do the same thing and do it well. Between AVG, Spybot S&D, and Microsoft Antispyware, I haven't had the first problem, no pop-ups, no viruses, no nothing except smooth crusin'. (Knock on wood!!!)

I run with no protection on a couple of internet facing PC's and just re-image them once a week.

It was a lot easier than managing the management software suites.

True.

I found Microsoft's own to be the best, and it's still free while it's in beta, as long as you're running XP, I don't think it works with anything older.
That said, you can still get hit - I had one until recently that reinstalled itself everytime I booted up , despite Spybot's, Adaware's and Microsoft's best efforts. They're getting nastier too.
