Well, got a couple more projects from the CFO. Need to build two 16'X72' horse run-in sheds, one now and the other paddock in the spring. We're always runnin' fence around here so I'm thinkin' (of course) more toys.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can you folks recommend a decent PHD that will do a good job on mostly 6X4 & 4X4 posts, not too many rocks here, old dairy farm. Don't care what color it is either!

Any comments on use etc.? I've never had the pleasure.... I know they are a pain to mount, but that's about it!

I have a SpeeCo from TSC. Have the 9" and 12" augers, suits me just fine /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hello Tony--Lot of good diggers out there--We offer the Greenline with the 9 or 12 inch auger and also with both augers-shipping to a business in your area will be under $90--No Sales Tax applies--Picture of diggers below--From our experience, I would suggest the 12 inch auger to give you the easiest post line up capabilities in your holes I just added a 36 ft shed on a building this week using this method--Ken Sweet

Actually, IF you hang the post hold digger from something it is probably the easiest of all implements to attach to your tractor. That is my experience anyway.

Now I have only used a tree and a loft floor joist in my shed, but both worked equally well...

My PHD is a Rhino, but I think the cheaper ones would work just as well in an area like you descibed.

A nine inch auger seems to work well for placing 4x4 posts if you have and eye like mine... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have a 14" auger that I used for 6x6 posts...and one or twice I was glad I did...when I got the hole off center somehow...

In the end if you are not digging holes day after day, you probably can get by with an inexpensive unit. I spent a little more because I got this mindset that if it has a gear box or moving parts I want something a little better...even though I realize that for my needs I don't need anything better...

Tonester, I have a post hole attachment tat has power down, incredibly useful for tough soils like hard pan or clays. It was given to me. It is a Danuser. My personal preference would be the hydraulic auger that attaches to the front loader. Easy to power down, easy intall/removal and decent reach. A local fence builder uses his Kubota L4310 this way, its very slick. A bonus is no shear bolts to break.

I have a TSC PHD with a 12" auger.

Does the job well and allows for my inability to drill holes in a straight line. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My neighbor and I split the costs on a Speeco unit from TSC. We've got 9 and 12 inch augers and it works for us in clay soil. Its been used for a few deck projects and planting saplings. For the price it is a nice unit. Greenline is also supposed to be a good unit on the lower end of the price scale. I think with any implement you need to ask yourself how much you will use it. The more you use it the better/heavier duty you should probably buy. I figure we are going to drill a couple hundred holes with the Speeco over the next dozen years, that is not a lot of use. On the other hand if I was drilling 100 holes a year for several years, I might buy a heavier duty unit.

I just sold an old lightweight rear blade and replaced it with a heavy duty model from Corriher (Midwest brand). But I use it a lot and so that justified the upgrade. I guess I try to look at all my equipment that way. Get the best I can justify based on the usage I plan now and in the future.

Thanks guys!

Great help, I think the Speeco sounds like what we're looking for. All I need now is for 'em to build a TSC store within a hundred miles.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Curious... what did you pay for the SPeeco PHD? The bits?

Know if there is a TSC anywhere near Los Angeles, CA?

Thanks.
