I am looking at a used BX2230 with 1500 hrs at a dealer. It has a 60" MMM, no loader. It looks like it has been well taken care of and everything seems to be working properly. Price is $4800. Does that sound like a reasonable price?

Not a bad price. There are a few BX2200/2230's on the market for under $5k with MMM but no FEL, generally 1,000+ hours. Really clean ones with under 1,000 hours go for more, and the ones with FEL's jump quite a bit, sometimes approaching $10k asking price. That's probably a bit steep, but the FEL definitely adds value. You might dangle $4,500 out there and see if he bites. That would be a steal considering you can drop $3,000 and more into a box store lawn mower these days.

Give the mechanicals a good inspection and work out... engine, hydraulics, HST, wheels and axles, frame, etc. Make sure the 3 point will lift an implement and hold it; the HST should be able to spin the wheels in the dirt if pushing/pulling on an immovable object (Note: the BX wants to have the engine revved up for hydraulics and HST to operate properly... that's normal), engine should not smoke or run hot or rough, steering should be effortless. Run the mower and see how it cuts. Make sure rear pto is working. Make sure the plastic HST cooling fan has all blades intact. Check for leaks, evidence of major repair or repainting.

Good luck!

If it's a "clean" maintained BX the price seems "good" to me.
Current thread has an owner facing a $1900 or more bill for repair on his used BX. Buy used and you buy the potential for more problems and most or many of you believe that's the best way to go. I bought used for years because that's what I could afford.:) $4800 to $4500 allows a lot of money for possible future repairs vs cost of new BX. If your borrowing the money to buy the used one you might should check monthly cost for a new one with your Kubota dealer.

Sounds about right to me, give or take, provided the deck is in good shape and it needs nothing (good belt, good tires, etc).
