John Deere 410; Yanmar 165D
Hi all, new to the forum so bear with me.

I'm tired of endlessly searching the internet and forums for answers so I decided to ask right up front. My family is considering a Yanmar 165d tractor in good condition with less than 500 hours on it on an auction. However at the same auction is an old 48 inch Matthew's flail mower (Model L48AL). So not sure whether we will end up getting either, but considering all the good stuff I've read on flail mowers (Mostly here on TBN) would this mower match the yanmar or with only 16hp would it be underpowered? I found the original manual for the matthew's but it doesn't give much specs. They did have a 16 hp engine mounted on one pull behind model. Also from my understanding most likely the yanmar was cat I 3pt hitch and I assume that the Matthew's flail, considering its size, would be the same but I read that some yanmar 165d's came with cat 0. How can I tell the difference without actually measuring? Any advice and info would be appreciated.

Best to ask in the Yanmar section. :) We know these machines inside and out.

BTW, on the Yanmar Tractors Owners Group, the free manuals are there to know what CAT type, 0 or 1 is used. Link below in my signature.

Suggest you also look at parts availability for that model. YM165_165D: Yanmar Tractor Parts

500 hours for a tractor that was probably sold new in the mid 1980s seems low, IMPO.

Wondering if you got it. That was our favorite little tractor. Bulletproof. 30 years and never needed a single part & ran like new. Oh, I did replace the battery. Wish we had another.

Hey rScotty,
Yeah we did buy the tractor and mower, got a good price on the tractor. Its in nice condition, a Quebec model so everything in French. Paint a bit faded, needs new exhaust after muffler, and the lights need some work. But these are minor things and I love it. It doesn't have a FEL which would be nice. We have a large backhoe so it covers FEL work but it would nice to have so we can haul it to say a gravel pit to load up a trailer as the backhoe is too big to haul with our pickup. The mower was a bit rusty but got it spinning, still needs some work and blades but should us serve us well. In the process of getting a rototiller for it. Actually I joined the the Yanmar Tractor Owners Group and found the conversations there very interesting and useful.

Cheers
