I am looking at a Kubota 7100 I think it is only 16hp diesel and would like to know if anyone has had success with this running a 48" tiller? Is it underpowered for the size of the tractor? The one I'm looking at is early 80s.

Thanks

They are a nice little tractor. The four foot tiller may be a little a little large. It depends a lot on the type of soil. You can always remove the outside rows of tines to make everything compatible.

To the forum. Are staying with a small tractor for a reason? If you want to use bigger implements you might go with an L series.

If you've got good soil, it will run it, but it'll pull that engine down. I had a B6100 (a little less HP than the B7100) with a 4 foot tiller and in old garden ground, it did a pretty good job, hard new ground required two passes to break it up initially, then I could go back and till it for a garden, especially if the ground was really dry.

Thanks for the responses... I just found a decent deal on a 7100 but would consider others.. I want it for tilling and snow removal only. I didn't think about removing a tine but that is a good option. I think the soil is good here.. new place so not sure.

At least I know a 4' could work if that is what I end up getting.

I have a B7200

I strong little 32 year old tractor. I work it very hard. 16 HP is net, Most would call it 17 HP.

FWIW...
My b1700 (17 hp/14 HP at PTO)...runs a 48" tiller with no issues what so ever...

I ran a tiller, think it was 42" with 4 rows of tines with absolutely no problems. Should hard face the tines and remember to grease the tiller bearings, mine also had an oil case for the chain and sprockets. Make sure to clean the area on the lasts row of tines and the bearings. This will put a lot of pressure on the bearing, spreading them an allowing dirt inside and premature failure. B7100 is a great tractor, have had mine for over 30 years. Good luck. One draw back is the availability of parts for the B7100. Keep that in mind. I have never had to replace anything on my B7100 except tires, battery, oil, air and fuel filters and have had to rebuilt my FEL cylinders twice.

Ditto to Calman's post. My B7100 has just enough power to run a 51" blower at 1000 rpm PTO speed..and no more It lacks enough weight on the rear tires, Which are narrow. Even with chairs it will sometimes just dig ruts I do not have the tires filled, but that might help slightly. IMO it is a too small, but tough machine.
