Ever have a problem with trash and/or water in your fuel? Is this the answer http://www.mrfunnel.com

I know I've seen such funnels mentioned somewhere on the forum before, but don't remember when, where, or whether it was the same brand. I just got mine today, so don't know yet how good they are, but one of my brother's customers had 4 barrels of gasoline they were going to dispose of because water got in them. They tried one of these funnels, salvaged all the gasoline, and ordered 4 more of the funnels./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bird, good idea. I get water in various petroleum products and easily drain it off since water is heavier then petro, I either pour it out by fully tipping the container of if its in a disposable container, put a small hole in the bottom, drain off the water and bingo, petro left. Airplanes use this same principle to remove water from their tanks. Rat...

Yeah, Rat, I'm familiar with the way airplanes do it (think we ought to have something similar on our tractors) because I used to be commander of the helicopter section on the police department and both my brothers are pilots and used to own planes in Alaska. But these funnels are supposed to get it all without wasting any of the fuel. And of course, the guys I mentioned had 4 barrels of gasoline; kind of hard to tip and pour. They said they just pumped out about 3 gallons at a time, dumped the water from the funnel, pumped another 3 gallons, etc.

Bird,
How long will it filter for and how much was it?

Bird,

I ordered one very similar (looks identical) a month or so back from Gempler's. The thread you were trying to find was titled BX 2200.

I ordered a funnel from Gempler's - had used similar before successfully.

They have a filter in them ... seen below ...

... that catches the trash and water. It works because water beads in petroleum products (surface tension) - and the droplets can't get through the screen. Only time it doesn't work is when detergents are present that break the surface tension - the water will then pass through the screen.

I have had some success with mine. Was surprised to find a small amount of water in the diesel I was getting from the local station - so now go a few miles further to fill up (newer place). Only issue I have is that there is always some diesel left in the funnel. I usually pour it back in the tank (storage - not tractor) - but it is a nuisance. I'm not keen on the idea of dumping it outside the garage every time I use the funnel.

Hopefully the one you mention has a slightly better design. I actually only use the funnel when I use a different supplier of diesel now (for whatever reason). Development has arrived in the area and I think they sell a lot less diesel - and I suspect that some of the tanks contents have been around for a while ...

Hope this is of some use ...

Again I'm amazed at the really useful information that I glean from this discussion group. I've been using my wife's pantyhose stretched over a regular funnel to hopefully filter out some of the crud and corruption in the fuel; however, this funnel looks like it might do a much better job and I've ordered one. I must say, though, that I'll miss chasing down the frau when it's time to replace the pantyhose, but progress is progress.

RPM, it sure looks to me like the two funnels are made just alike, so I doubt there's any difference in the way they work.

Von, sorry to be slow responding; had to drive to Denver Saturday and back Sunday (whew, I'm getting too old for 800+ miles per day).

As for how long it will filter for, I've wondered myself. They claim it'll last for years - hope they're right. And as for how much? They've got 3 different sized models at different prices. You can find all 3 models, prices, and/or order them at the link I provided. Mine was free - a gift./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Or maybe you could say it was part of my payment for driving that danged truck to Denver this past weekend./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I'll toss this into the hopper. I checked both sites (Smart Tech and Gempler) and found that the funnels are exactly the same price; the only difference seems to be in the shipping costs. Smart Tech charges $6.00 UPS and Gempler charges $6.90 UPS. There might be some slight differences in design, but they certainly appear to be similar.

Yep, GlennT, slight difference in the design, but so slight . . ., well, it'd be pure speculation on my part, but I suspect they're made in the same factory with different molds for different brand names.
