Wondering what people do to conveniently place grease on areas that aren't inside of zerk fittings. Do you buy grease in cans and use popsicle sticks to get it out and apply it? Does a large size syringe (without a needle) work at all? What do you recommend? Ideally I would like something that would allow me to use conventional 14oz grease tubes but without the high pressure injector, since the types of grease I want are easy to find and reasonably priced in those tubes. Thanks in advance.

Aside from grease gun for zerks, I only use white lithium grease on the PTO shaft. Apply it from either a tube or a small can of it with my finger.

Generally use silicone spray on almost anything else. Grease or oil usually attract dirt and dust. Silicone doesn't accumulate it like they do.

All good points. Some of the things I want to use the same grease on aren't tractor-related. I do use silicone spray on things like 3pt implement pins and for those purposes it works well.

I had a light bulb moment a bit ago when washing my hands. Any reason you couldn't stuff a soft-soap dispenser with grease and have it pump out of there? It seems the pump must already be capable of handling viscous liquid.

Depending on what grease you are using sometimes the exact grease that is available in tube form is also available in a spray can.

For hand packing wheel bearings I buy grease in a 7 pound can.

A handy way to apply small amounts of grease is to punch a hole in the cap of a tube of grease and insert a flux brush through the hole. As you use the grease in the tube, cut the tube shorter. The flux brush makes brushing on small amounts of grease handy.

When I need apply grease in a pinpoint location I have a cattle syringe filled with grease.

Probably my most used way to apply grease other than a grease gun with zerk fitting is to use my spray grease. Great for slip joints, truck/tractor 5th wheels, pivot points that have no zerk fitting etc...

The easiest way I have found is go to your local parts store and get a needle designed for grease guns. NAPA® Online Item#: BK 7001193 I use mine all the time for door hinges and pivot locations which have no zerk. Easier and cleaner than all over your hands.

usualy for stuff like tractor fifth wheels and pto slides and garbage compactor slides i just hold the end of the grease gun againts the surface and pump it while sliding it along, not too messy and convenient. as to spreading grease with your fingers, i never do that, too easy to get a sharp metal sliver in your hand, always use a stick, putty knife, cardboard piece, anything but my fingers
