Its late and I had a thought that will take more brain power than I have at this hour to figure out but here it is....

Could you take a gear driven forward rotation tiller and turn the drive mechanism around some how(flip the hitch and main gearbox over to the back side) to make it a reverse rotation? At this hour of the night it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult...just putting it out there and I will think about it some more in the AM.

I think you should get some sleep.....the conversion feeling will pass with some rest.

You would have to open up gear box and flip input gear to other side (front to back or back to front) Replace all tines for a RTR direction, and if it was chain drive the chain tensioner would have to go on the other side. All ways adjust the chain on slack side. Gear drive should not need any work there.

If you feel inclined, do some searching here, I recall a thread where someone did the conversion. It was fairly basic and it worked. The output gear was reversed on the shaft from the geaqrbox.

That was probably the easiest way to covert a tiller possible. However, I still don't think it was worth the cost of the machinist or labor to switch the tines. Tillers do a really good job even when tilling the forward direction. The only difficulty I have had with forward rotation, is sometimes the tiller can push the tractor forward in really hard ground and the tines "walk" on the surface. Then I just put it in 4WD to stop that. For the OP, all I can say is get some sleep.

I was thinking more along the idea of taking the hitch assembly and turning it so it faced where the back of the tiller would have originally been and with that the tines would already be the right way for reverse rotation (like tilling in reverse with a forward rotation tiller) and then making a few other mods to go with it.

How about just tiling in reverse? One pass reverse, then forward to remove tire compaction.

Tilling in reverse kind of works, but it is really hard on the chain/tensioner on the FIL's Farm King chain drive tiller. Plus it is hard to drive in a straight line for that far (looking at tilling approx .5acre)

Judging by the heavy clay soil in those photos, it would have been worth it. Much cheaper than trading in, and so much easier on the neck. Why don't you PM that guy and ask him what it cost to do the conversion.

I amsoon going to pull the trigger on a MF 1600 series, and a tiller too, so I think reverse rotation is the way I will go.
