OK there are many threads I have seen on this here.

I figured I would ask before screwing something up or waste a lot of money.

Ok I have this one Troybuilt Tomahawk chipper ( motor is messed up on it) :http://img.orbitbid.com/2011/11/14/z (79).JPG

I was thinking about doing this: Photo Gallery

where do i buy that splined shaft set up thats on Everything attachment one?

And about what size pulley you figure that might be?

Any other ideas or pros and cons to this ?

Tractor Supply or a similar retail store will most likely have pto shafts to connect up to it. The splined shaft, I can't right at the moment think of a good place to obtain one, although i'm sure someone else will respond with a good source.

As far as speeds go, most small gas engines run pretty fast, I believe around 3400-3600 RPM, so figure a ratio from 540/3600. So to keep the same speed, 16" sheave on the pto shaft will need around a 2.5 " on the chipper end. One thing to keep in mind is running this on a tractor with a lot more horsepower. The added power could easilt tear things up in a hurry if overfed. Maybe run only a single belt and allow for minimal slippage if overloaded.

Keep us posted with lots of pictures. :)

I've got a Tomahawk chipper with an 8 HP engine and it is pretty hard on belts. I can't imagine trying to put a tractor's HP through a single belt.

To be honest I have never used mine. It was given to me. The engine was not running, and like most of us that have so much going on at certain times of the year I put it behind my shop and forgot I had it back there the cover blew off during a bad storm and it rained in motor.

I am wondering if its underpowered a bit? If its hard on belts. If its slipping it might be that engine can't keep up with the shredder blades? I don't know I am just speculating

what about a bigger belt and lower rpms?

To perhaps keep it from grenading. I honestly think the belt would burn up before it did that.

The problem you will have is flywheel direction of rotation. I have a 6" Bandit Chipper that I converted to PTO from engine driven. I had to add a gearbox because the PTO shaft off of the tractor turns the opposite direction as the engine. The gearbox changed rotating direction and then I was able to use the factory belt drive system. I sourced the gearbox from a PTO generator, the pulleys from my local bearing supplier, and the PTO shaft from my tractor dealer. It was not cheap but now I have one powerful chipper!

Why not turn the chipper around and run the shaft under it?
