I've done a few searches of the archives and my best 'AND' and 'OR' combinations have netted me nothing, but I know this has been discussed at length before.

I will be doing my two-year coolant replacement on my B2410 shortly. The owner's manual has a pretty hazy description of what type of coolant is required (mentions 'permanent type' and 'minimum glycol content', but nothing too specific). From what I understand, supplemental coolant additives (SCAs) are important to heavy-duty diesel engines, and some smaller diesel engines too(?). I'm wondering what Kubota owners here typically run:

- Regular ethylene glycol type (same as used in autos)
- Ethylene glycol with SCAs added separately
- Ethylene glycol pre-charged with SCAs
- Propylene glycol

Thanks!

Rob, from what I've read, the SCAs are meant to prevent cavitation errosion that normally only occurs in diesel engines with wet sleeves. Anyone who knows better feel free to correct me. And my Kubota manual only called for "permanent type" antifreeze with no mention of the SCAs. The original antifreeze "appeared" to be regular Prestone. So . . ., I think ordinary ethylene glycol came in it and was good enough. However, . . . for the price difference at Tractor Supply Co., I put the Fleetguard with the SCAs in mine. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif In other words, I ain't very sure what's best. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Bird,

Thanks - that is good to know. I can't seem to find Fleetguard products around here, but NAPA sells a coolant for diesels that is pre-charged. I wouldn't be surprised if it was made by Fleetguard. For the whopping 4.0 qt. coolant capacity I think I can swing the $$$ /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

John,

Thanks for the link. I didn't search far enough back, or in the JD forums. I should have remembered those lectures that you and cbdoc put on /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice to know that I can be away form TBN for awhile and still come back and get some quick help from two Star members. TBN is cool. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
