after reading a little on here about engine oils, i noticed there is quite a few people here with vast knowlege on these fluid subjects. quick question. does anybody know what the sae and astm standards mean for coolants? i found a site on the internet that had a tiny bit of info and it pointed to that the different standards are ment for different engines and cooling systems. (i know, sounds straight forward, but it didn't explain the exact standards i am looking at, so i ask,) more specifically, the sae j1034, j814c, and also astm d3306, d6210, d4340. the little info the web site has hinted that these standards are adopted at intervals and certain ones are out dated and replaced by other ones. i am not sure this is exactly correct, but it is what the site lead me to believe. this sort of reminds me of the standards on the engine oils like the sm and cf standards and that "s" is for gas engines and "c" is for diesels and the 2nd letter replaces all previous letters , such as oil classification sm, replaces all previous oils sa-sL. and cj replaces all diesel oils ca-ci. (ok so maybe those exact classifications don't exist, but you get my point. any way, enough babbling on my part. any info on these coolants would be greatly appreciated. ps. i don't remember the web site as i just happened to come across it.
