Hi guys, I am about ready to prepare my Kubota equipment for the spring and have noticed that Kubota recommends changing anti-freeze every two years. Therefore, I am about to drain and flush the cooling systems this year. However, what coolant are you guys recommending or have experience with that should be used with our precious diesel motors. I know we must be concerned about cavitation and the DCA additive that separates which may plug our cooling systems. Is there a best solution for us?

Now I am really confused, I just got a gallon of Fleetgaurd anti-freeze that is pre charged with DCA. Now I don't know if I should use it, if it will clog the cooling system. Does anyone know what to use. The owners and shop books have no information on this. Need help quick, I want to change the anti- freeze on Monday.

This is what my operators manual for the B21 says.

1. "There are two types of anti-freeze available; use the permanent type (PT) for this engine."

3. ".... basically it should be refered to SAE J1034 standard, more specifically also to SAE J814c."

Not a word about DCA.

I just checked my "Workshop Manual" and it is worded identically to the "Operater's Manual" except the reference number is different.

Extended life antifreeze for diesels will not settle out and plug the collant systems. There is a different formualtion in this mixture that provides the same protection against cavation.
We now use this in over 200 engines at work with success. When my tractor requires servicing, I plan to use this stuff. Also, our manufacturer will stand behind this product in case of failure. Thanks Rick

Is this issue confusing or what???? Is there an extended life anti-freeze just for diesels or is there one extended life for all engines?
Also, that standard SAE J1034 is that the everyday anti-freeze you buy in the parts stores? Is this issue so confusing that it is best to use standard anti-freeze?

I would go with "or what". I looked at a bottle of "Prestone" that I had in the barn and all that I found out was "Can cause birth defects in laboratory animals"/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif No statements of compliance, zip, nothing.

Take a look at the following link it does define it's product as compliant to; SAE J1034 and J814c and SAE J1941. Also in the text states that it has diesel anti foam stuff. This also reinforces the two kinds of antifreeze, standard and extended life.

I have another bit of confusion. There have been some reports that extended life does not cool as well as conventional anti-freeze. Have any of you guys heard this?

Fleetguards website has useful information on cavatation erosion and their supplemental cooling additive that helps fight this problem in diesel engines. Like others have stated, my 3010 manual states nothing other than to use a permanent type antifreeze-clean and flush every 2 years.

There is some technical info if you click on the links. Hope this helps. I don't see to many diesel vehicles in the shop. I do see a lot of GM vehciles with Dex cool (extended antifreeze) in their cars and trucks, doesn't help this this topic though /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.
