It looks like the blade guard is the upper part of a forage/silage chopper spout.

Could you mount a matching curved section to the pivoting shelf to pivot in the same arc as the existing guard?

As the log is pushed into the blade- the guard will pivot riding on the log.

While moving the shelf (where log is riding) back to position the log for the next cut, the
blade guard will rotate back down to cover the blade.

As with any powered piece of equipment be very careful ! ! ! ! !

What is the biggest diameter log you can cut clean thrugh ?

Massey, We had one 25 years ago that would cut 6" oak as fast as you could push it through. Scary fast to say the least! Powered by a 4 cylinder Wisconson via flat belt.

Paul, Thanks for posting the pics. I still have the saw arbor & table mentioned above but the seized engine is long gone & wood framed trailer is pretty much rotted away. Been trying to decide how to rebuild. A steel version of your trailer setup with PTO drive is in my future. MikeD74T

It will do a little more than 10" but its not fun. I use the chain saw for all the big stuff. A lot of my firewood comes from keeping the fields trimmed back so most of the logs are less than 6". Minimizes the amount of wood I have to split.

I have an old cordwood saw, I've never seen it hooked up, its been laying on the ground since I was a kid. Father used it for sawing slabs up before my time. All thats there is the blade/shaft and pulley I think...nothing else. I'm wondering what bearings or pillow blocks you would use to hold the saw fast/tight to run off a chain or something from a slip clutch on pto driveshaft... I could get a picture.
