Been looking into cordless framing nailers , and I really have no clue which style I should look at; Gas , rechargeable, ect. Looking at something with a 2 - 31/2 inch nail capacity, this will be used for building a couple of decks on the new house, a garage and also a shop, along with various other building projects around the farm. Any advice or things to consider before buying one ?

From what I have seen the gas powered are the way to go on framing nailers. We use a gas powered hilti gun for shooting shorter nails into steel and concrete and it seems to work great. I believe paslode is one of the more popular brands.

Bought a used one from a pawn shop. Paslode. Worked great. Framed a barn, two decks and some other projects. Re-listed it on Ebay and sold it for the original money.

I bought a factory refurbed hitachi a few years back. Uses the same nails and gas cartridges as the paslode. Works good but won't drive 16 penny in the Oak framing in my old farmhouse!

I've got a Bostitch F28WW framing nailer. Uses a rechargeable battery and gas cartridge. Prior to getting this nailer I used a Porter Cable air nailer with a hose. Since I bought the Bostitch the PC has been gathering dust. I've also switched to a Bostitch cordless finish nailer. After doing a couple remodeling jobs with the cordless nailers I'll never go back to one attached to a hose. For a contractor the cordless framing nailer would be an expensive option due to the need to buy gas cartridges. Although, you could probably buy a lot of gas cartridges for what a portable compressor costs. I'm really happy with the Bostich quality. I've never used a Paslode, Dewalt, Hitachi or Senco nailer so their quality may be just as good. Not having to haul hoses around is a big plus for these nailers.

I have a Paslode framing nailer and a Paslode finish nailer. For work around the house and pasture, particularly for the board fences, you can't beat them. Pop a battery in, make sure the gas cartridge is good, a coupla clips of nails and you're good to go.

Pasload is probably the leader in air less guns. Battery fired co2 cells. Great guns for all around use.

I bought a Paslode (battery/gas) last year brand new on Ebay for $250 (399 at Home Depot). One of the handiest tools I have ever purchased. I've put 2-3 thousand nails through it so far with no jams. I really like it and rarely use a hammer for nails any more. Gas seems to last a long time, I'm only on my second canister. Battery holds a charge nicely as well. I doubt you can go wrong with any if the top brands.
