I promise I am not as tractor illiterate as you tractor vets might think /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but I have a rather simple question. As everyone knows b/c I have talked about it endlessly, I just recently purchased a 5103. Now, keep in mind I was used to operating and working on my 52 8N so the 5103 is a whole new batch of quirks for me to get used to. I noticed that when I engage the PTO at 2600 rpm (my normal cutting rpm), the tractor really vibrates and shudders, like it is in a bind i guess. Is there a better way to engage the PTO? I tried engaging at my "warm-up" rpm of 1500 and it was a smoother engagement.....am i hurting the tractor by bringing it up to operating rpm then engaging the PTO or should I engage the PTO around 1500rpm and bring the throttle up slowly? That is how I did it with my 8N. Any help is much appreciated!

Engage the PTO at idle or just above. Then disengage it at the same slower speed.

I would think engaging PTO at a high speed would cause more wear on PTO clutch also. what gave you the idea to do that? operating speed just means the speed at which your PTO reaches 530 rpm.
