I have a middle buster bought from TSC (Country Line brand) CountyLine® Middle Buster - Tractor Supply Online Store . It has the plow head on, not a shank. I have also heard it referred to as a subsoiler.
I have tried to rip the ground with this attachment several times with not much luck. What is your experience with this attachment? I tried pulling the top-link in, which rotates the head "Up" and let it out, rotating the head "down". My thought was that letting the top link out, and pointing the head down would allow the plow to dig in. All it wants to do is grab about 2" of top soil and not dig in.
I have used all 3 holes on the top link, none had better success. I also thought about changing out the plow head for a shank or a different style plow. I have used it in hard clay soils as well as sandy soils. It never seems to want to grab and dig in.
I bought it to be able to break up the ground and allow me to dig shallow utility or drainage lines. I've never gotten this thing to dig. Maybe my top link is not short enough?
