I have about 100' of 24" corrugated metal pipe that runs across the front of my lawn and under my driveway.

The discharge end of it is rotting away and soil around it is eroding. The ditch was cleaned out a few years ago, and the drop off is now about 18".

This pipe was installed about 30 years ago when I built my house.

My question is: Is there a good way to connect the existing CMP to new plastic pipe?

I plan to dig the existing pipe back to where it is not rotted away, and cut off the bad part and put new plastic in it's place. I guess I could go back with CMP, but the plastic would be much easier to work with.

I have not looked into the pipe to see how far back the rotted part goes, but I don't think it's very far. And replacing the entire pipe (which I probably should do) would cost a lot more and I would have to bust out some concrete where it goes under my driveway.

Can you slide a larger diameter plastic pipe over the cmp.then seal gap with concrete

I don't know but I know who will. Call someone that sells or knows about ADS agricultural drain tile or call them direct.

They are a huge supplier for rolls of plastic drain tile for farmers draining fields in the midwest. I've seen all sorts of connections from one type of drain to another and I'll bet they have what you want. ADS is Advanced Drainage Systems.

That might work. I just looked at the specs on the plastic pipe, and the OD of a 24" is 28". And the ID of a 30" is well....30" I'm gonna look into that some more. Thanks!

I bet the bell end of a 24" plastic pipe will slide over a 24" metal pipe, or be close enough to fudge.

Just get a smooth wall plastic pipe with a bell end large enough to slip over the existing pipe. Seal up with a combination of expanding foam and concrete. It will be “good enough” for a long time to come.

I'd go with just sliding the larger pipe over your existing,
with it being on the outlet end I wouldn't be overly concerned about the gap.
You could just do couple of wraps of heavy plastic or a cheap tarp around the seam.

I agree on using a bell end, I have some 12in plastic with the bell end and it would slip over the metal culvert no problem. It won't seal but as long as there aren't and trees or other plants with root systems that'll try to work their way in you should be good.

I measured the OD of my 24" metal pipe and it is right at 26".

I went to a local pipe supplier and measured the ID of the bell end of a 24" plastic pipe and it is just over 27". This gives me about 1" to work with. I will make it fit.

The only place I got a price was $436 for a 20' joint of the 24" dual wall plastic. Tractor Supply has it online for $530. I'll check around a few other places before I start this project after the holidays.

Thanks for the feedback.

$436 is a good price for a double wall 24" with bellmouth connections, the cheapest I can find around here is 1.5hrs away and $450.
