Plower, you'll have to decide how heavy duty a one you want. I've seen new ones from $495 (usually more though) to around $1,500.

I got interrupted while I was doing this message. Northern Tool has a 3-point post hole digger for $349.99 plus $86.99 to $104.99 each for different size augers. That's about the cheapest one I know of (of course, there's probably a reason it's cheap).

Plower,
Last December I need a posthole digger. I did a lot of looking around. Almost all of the less expensive ones had what looked like the same gear box. The ears on top looked too light. I finely went with a Bush Hog 2101 with 9" bear claw auger. It is a fine piece of equipment, that I'm real happy with. BWY, I paid $635, the area Bush Hog rep. couldn't believe that I got it that cheap.

Bird hit it on the head. It depends on the quality and options if any on the digger. Also depends on what auger bit you go with---vary in price quite abit and you usually get what you pay for. If it seems too cheap it more than likely is unless it's a brand name.

I bought a slightly used Danuser F-8 for $800.00 with two bits and I thought that was a screamin deal. Prices vary along with time of year and demand.

No I have not but Mark just put one on his maybe we can get him to give us an idea as to cost. But you know as well as I do if it says Danuser it doesn't come cheap. By the same token if the use that I've given mine so far is any indication of how its built. Its bullet proof!!!

I would love to get a step auger for tree planting, another of my many wants or should I say needs.

Have you looked into price on the kit?

The Danuser downforce kit is about $400. And well worth it if you're digging in difficult conditions.

As always thanks for the info Mark! Guess that says it all if your working in difficult conditions. How much time do you think it saves you on a hole and do you shear alot more bolts using it?
