Cost of 50 hour service

Avorancher,
I have the same BH as you, so if you have problems, let us know. The first time is a real pain, but after a few times it really is easy. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

With the exception of a painted on oil filter(I am still mad about that) and an expensive and not necessary shop manual, the only thing you need to do the 50 hour service is a good footbal game and some beer.
It makes for a decent afternoon.

Over here on the other side of the country, New England the dealer charged me $200.00 to do the 50 hour service. My tractor had to go in for some warrantee work at the 46 hour mark so while they had it in the shop I had them do the 50 hour service.

I don't know exactly what it would have cost me to buy all the components and do the work myself, but I'm guessing it would be around $75.00. I know an oil change with filter is about $20.00. I have a gear drive transmission so the fluid is less than the HST.

I would probably do it myself next time.

I have a BX2200 and my dealer wanted $245 for the 50 hour service. I did the maintenance myself. Wasn't hard but it was a little messy.
The filters and fluids cost $125.

I am right about there on the 50 hours too.

I am leaning towards the dealer, because, I want his opinion
on a once over.

Gimme the facts on how it looks, how it runs, etc. etc. Not the mention the fact that we need to keep in contact.

Does this factor into your maintenance or relationship?
it does to me.

Thanks to everyone for their answers. I do believe that I'm just going to do it myself next weekend.

I don't have a relationship yet with the local dealer because I purchased from a dealer near my current home and store the tractor at new construction that I'm moving to next month. I had a good experience at a dealer in Santa Ana, CA (Eberhard Equipment). Pricing was great, sales was informative, and they delivered over 100 miles away, etc. The owner even recommended that I purchase from the other dealer who was closer to the new home to ease any warranty issues, but I couldn't get the deal I needed there because it included a used backhoe on a new tractor.

He said the other dealer would take care of me and he knew the owner of that dealership, but that Kobuta dealers are lucky to break even on warranty work due to labor costs out here.

When the Eberhard realized that I needed a mid-PTO B7800 with folding ROPS to mount the used backhoe, they ate the cost and honored our quote.

Yesterday, I separated the left front tire from the rim... called the new dealer in Temecula, CA but their service was closed til Monday. I guess that is normal with the holiday weekend. After taking the wheel off, I think I can fix it... seems like sideways pressure just popped the seal. I noticed that the valve cap is missing, so perhaps dirt wedged in the valve and drained the pressure down. I was working in a rough area with steep hillsides.

If you have an air compressor, remove the core from the valve when you put the air into the tire. The air will flow faster and seat the bead. If you are careful, you can reinstall the core while the air is escaping from the tire valve. Make sure that you use safety glasses when doing this operation, because if the valve stem blows out of your hand, it is like a small missile coming at you.... Afterwards, use some soapy water to check for leaking air around the rim.

Avorancher,
Another thing that I have done is use a belt clamp, or even a come-a-long (on the rear tire) to put even pressure around the tire to help seat the bead. By tightening a belt around the circumference of the tire, it puts outward pressure on the bead into the rim.
