Cost of 50 hr and 100 hr service

I don't know, I'd like to think so. I guess that's why forums like these and trying to stay educated is important.

My dealer charges $5 per mile. (59 miles pickup and delivery = $600 plus taxes) so I was motivated to do it myself.

$281 plus taxes for filters and fluids, a day in the sun and a trip to the waste disposal site.

I think $400 is a bargain.

I would say in your situation, probably so. I live a 1/4 mile down the road and drove my tractor to them . . . $400.00, I don't think so.

I agree, as stated previously, that charges in excess of estimate, without approval of updated estimated charges is a problem.

But if parts are $281, overhead would be another whatever, $100 or so in margin on a job a couple of hours long all in (assuming performed by owner rather than employee). I would not even consider opening my tool box for that kind of money.

****, can work at a local merchant and probably clear over $15 an hour, no investment, no overhead, no risk.

Maybe there is something I just don't get here.

Sorry if I'm confused. But shouldn't a business owner be entitled to any and all margin he or she can get??? Ultimately the market will determine the price, and I'm with prior poster. A $120 is well worth avoiding the pain of filling the gearbox with 7 gallons of oil by hand, not fun and then disposing of the old. Not to mention other steps, the filling part alone took me forever, without an oil drum and pump (capital investment), it's no fun.

One thing that I think needs to be clarified with the post just before my last post is what service he was referring to. For the 50hr.,$600.00 is not bad especially including pick up/delivery. Keep in mind I paid $550.00 for my 50hr. and I live less than a mile away form the shop. He lives 50+ miles away!!! If he taling about the 100hr I still think it is too much. I believe parts/material for the 100hr. are aprox. $75.00 and then of course you have aprox. 1.5-2 hours worth of labor.
