I have a friend who wants to buy a Campbell-Hausfield 6000W generator with a B & S 11hp engine. It's only been used about 10 or 12 hours.

Problem is: I'm not sure what price to ask for here in the central Pa area.

Any help on pricing would be appreciated

If it is just a basic generator with no low oil shutdown or brushless operation, then they sell new for $650-800. Go from there.

Sneakypete... Wow! Thats a heck of a deal. A new one probably runs around $2k or more.

As for the original post... do you know what it was worth new? I'd think about $150 off that price would be good. Maybe the $500 range? BTW, I'm basing my info off of Texas prices.

That's about what I figured too. The guy's wife wanted it out of the garage for whatever reason - I talked him down from his asking price.

Thanks for the info, everyone!! Just a little background on this generator that has about 12 hours on it.

I used it for the first time last winter when we ran out of power for 4 days. I had the generator running, but it would increase/decrease rpm's radically. Finally, in the middle of the night...it just quit. I came out the next morning to find "foam" all over carburetor. Looked like somone put shaving cream all over it.

We took it to a repairman and he located the problem. Mice had built a nest just above the coil. They urinated along the wire leading into the coil and shorted it out. This is an older guy who's worked on small engines all his life...and he never saw anything like it. The coil was completely rusted, thus shorting it out.

He replaced the coil and it runs like a top.

Everyday, there's a new and weird story about equipment!!!

Now that is an intresting story. Glad you found the problem. Good luck on selling it.
