Wondering if anybody knows how much the beet juice costs that gets used for filling tires. I am looking into buying a lawn roller and am thinking of maybe filling it with beet juice so I don't have to drain it during the cold weather. My other choice is concrete. Both of these would also give me more weight in the roller than just straight water will.

Should cost you between $2.50 and $3.50 per gallon depending on the quantity you buy. I know of several New Hampshire dealers that sell it, Chappell in Milford/Brentwood and Keates in Keene to name a few.

I put used motor in my roller. It weighs a bit less than water, but is free /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

....shouldn't have to worry about it rusting out. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Doesn't that make a lot of noise, clanging around inside a roller.

OOPS, right you are, left off the oil, that would make a motor complain a lot. Only put used synthetic oil in there though, works a lot longer between roller oil changes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sand in a roller works well. It's slow getting the initial load in but probably a little faster than concrete.

arnt you a little concerned about if ya punture it on a sharp rock or chunk of metal in the ground or whatever and spring a leak, sure would be a heck of a mess to have a hundred gallons of used oil on the ground and could get into your well or make a big problem if ya try and sell the place later, atleast calcium cloride is basicly just salt water and will dissolve pretty quickly into the ground and not cause any harm, same with beet juice its pretty harmless. personaly i would use water and just drain it in winter, not like your gona be using your roller in the winter anyhow, actualy my roller is an old water tank that i filled with concrete, reason being that the walls were very thin so i needed the hard concrete inside to keep it from getting dented up easily.

Not my roller, It is made from heavy wall 24" pipe. the end plates a 1/4 inch steel. I would worry more about a stick punching a hole in my oil pan than in the roller. I think I get better mileage with the synthetic oil in the roller.

OK. Trying to confuse me? I guess the "oil pan" you're referring to isn't the roller this time. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
