Hello All,

' Anyone know how much $$$ to rent/hire a tri-axle and a driver for a day?

A new housing development has something like 160,000 cubic yards of fill to get rid of - all free.

Just curious if it would be worth hiring a guy to do a few ( a lot /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) loads to fill up a ravine on my farm.

Thanks,
Neil.

Around here in western washington, a solo tri axle runs around $72/hr. Add a 4 axle pup and it goes up to about $85/hr. With a truck and trailer, you should be able to get somewhere around 25 cubic yards per load this way.

I believe the going rate for a tri-axle and driver in my area of Western, Pa. is somewhere around $50 - $60 per hour.

I can second that, my best friend has a trucking company in W PA and I know he'd take $60 and hour. Tri-axles in PA can haul 25 ton + or - 1 ton depending on the unit weight. PA allows 76,000 lbs and truck weights average 25,000-26,000 lbs. He just bought another new Freightliner tri-axle. They haul coal with the tri-axles and over the road with sleepers. Coal is hauled dependant on distance and I know for a fact (cause I've done some of his trucking books) he doesn't average $60 an hour hauling coal!

That alot of fill /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif If you check around you might possibly find someone who is not too busy. That's going to be your problem this time of year. Most haulers are committed to customers/vendors during this period. Another possibility is someone willing to do Saturday hauls.

An average tri-axle is going to move about 22-24 ton a load. which means in an eight hour day (minus some needed down time) they can move about 160 ton. That's if your site is close to the loading area. Just for fun, let's say you decided to take ALL the fill, and let's round yards to tons /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

160,000/23=6,957 loads /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

6,957 loads at roughly 1 load per hour X $30.00 (discount per hour for long term haul) = $208'710.00 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

More than likely your thinking along the lines of about (5) hauling days at roughly $50.00/hour, (7) hour day, equating to about (6-7) loads a day. Or, $350.00 /day X (5) days equating to $1750.00 and approximately 800 Yard delivered /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hopefully, I did that right /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Gentleman,

Thanks for all the input. Very much appreciated.

We are fairly close, less than 10 miles.

I'll mull over the calculations, not sure if I want to spend the money.

Have a good one,
Neil.

Have you calculated how much it will cost to load all that dirt?

JMC,
I haven't figured it out yet.....

Trying to determine how much a cubic yard weighs....
Trying to determine how many cubic yards in a tri-axle....

I'll let you know if I figure it out....

Neil.
