I'm assuming some of us have replaced syncros in their Dynashift transmissions since it's the 'one' big issue with those tractors? Can anyone tell me what to expect in cost / trouble getting it done?
I have a 1997 MF 8160 that occasionally jumps out of 2n'd gear when you first start out, so I know it'll just get worse. The only problem is I live south of Denver with few choices of dealerships all far away --- the local one in Greeley, 85 miles away, has NEVER split a newer massey and gave me a range of $5k to $8k (to start.... do not trust they'll even stay in that considering they've never done it).
I'm considering dragging it to NE or KS to have the work done if I can find a reputable dealer with experience, or splitting the tractor myself and just dragging the transmission up to the same dealer, whoever is competent.
That's the trouble running bigger tractors here as the dealers are 99% selling toys for small ranches. No-one has experience with the mid-size unless you go back East a bit. Perhaps south as I haven't tried the dealers there.
Anyone had experience? Doing work to their Dynashift trannys or having it done?
BTW - except for the glitch in the syncro, I'm pleased with the newer MF (AGCO?) tractors. This isn't my newest tractor but is my newest 'workhorse'. I'm no longer concerned about getting stuck and can actually hear the radio when dragging in hay! & the AC works, and seals in the cab...wow, heaven compared to long days on the old ones.
