Stopped to fill up on the way to work this morning and look at the sign I saw on top of the gas pump at Costco (SE Michigan). I thought it was funny in-light of the recent discussions on fuel additives.

But Shell does it etc. Fuel adds work (for a select fuel)..I would not go into deal here on this site. Been here longer then this logon to know how it works.

For the price of their fuel..not bad.

It must be a big deal, around here as they have added tanks to all of the stations around here to add the additive when the tanker shows up instead of at the fuel depot.

They are probably getting it direct from the supplier and cutting out the middle man.

Surprised they didn't put 'Super-duper' in there somewhere. ;)

Was it automatically included with the fuel? I saw a station that extra additives were an option...of course added some to the cost too.
One brand here is pushing they have STP additives already in the fuel...I've never been impressed by STP but I guess some are;)

I'm assuming so, I didn't have any buttons to push outside of the fuel grade I wanted.

Now I know why both of my Costco's had digging going on around their gas stations the past few months.

Not that long ago additives were added at the loading rack but the driver. He'd load up his rig with API spec gasoline and then depending on where he was going, he would add the appropriate amount and the correct type of additive. It makes sense for the stations to do it themselves since they can guarantee their additive is in the product but it does cost them money to add the equipment. And yes, some have found a marketing opportunity in this by up-selling certain additives that can be automatically added at the pump.

Yep, if they put an STP sign up, they won't ever see me again.

I just wish that they would add real gas to their fuel pumps. CUT THE ETHANOL

All the Costco stations in Oregon have added above ground tanks and they have signs up for the "Kirkland Signature" additives. Was in there the other day and they were training a new guy how to add the additive when the tanker is there. So I am guessing that they add so much for what ever load the tanker has.

You can put all the additives you want in a fuel but by far the best additive for cleaning is ethanol.

My uncle runs/owns 2 Shell Gas Stations in Ohio. He resisted ethanol as long as he could because he knows all the ill side effects. He was forced into it by corporate. As you know Shell has had products like V-Power and so on they advertised for years as additives. He changed his fuel filters on his pumps once a month. When they got the first tank of ethanol blended fuel he changed his filters 3 times in the first 24 hours. Then changed them 4 or so more times in the following 7 days, then once more mid month, then finally got back to a once a month change. His stations are very very high volume stations, something like 10,000 gallons per station per day so his tanks were full of fresh clean fuel to start with, within reason.

He could tell the filters were clogging due to the pumps slowing way down.

Costcos in Western Montana had the additives late last spring. In Northern Idaho they got the extra tanks and plumbing done by about the 4th of July. I haven't been able to tell a difference, but fugure it can not hurt and Costco's gas prices are one of the best in town. We pretty much run Costco gas in every thing and have never had a fuel related issue.

I never said I liked it. Do some research and you will see I hate the stuff. I have probably posted 500 times about it and all the problems it causes me. I work in the marine industry and also maintain a fleet of mowers and power equipment for a landscaping company. It seems once a month I am dealing with ethanol issues.

I am just saying its a great cleaner. Cant deny that.

I want little buttons on the pump labeled "Seafoam" "Stabil" "Marvel Mystery" "Drygas" "Everclear" "ATF" "Synth 2 Cycle" etc, so you could choose whatever you want in each fill up!

If they offered that, then some goof-ball would show up whining about the amount left in the hose that had the wrong mix and how that would eat away his seals and foul up something unless you added in his snake-oil.

That is why I do not buy old vehicles anymore. New ones are built to withstand that. And with all the driving I do, the gas is not in my tank long enough to worry about that.
