coughing for 19 days after bush hogging

Just to reiterate: yup our bodies change and what was ok for the gander at one time, may not be later on in life. I had a cough for two years and it had nothing to do with my lungs. It had everything to do with post nasal drip. My body was reacting to an irritant it never reacted to before. Post nasal drip is like a perpetual motion machine. Your body is trying to heal itself with keeping things moist and your body is reacting to the moisture as it creates a sore spot.

You feel this just below your neck. I doubt very much that you inhaled "grass". Spores of grass..absolutely and it does take seemingly forever to clear. Your lungs feel heavy as your body is signaling more moisture to have you cough on purpose. It is a defense mechanism of your body reacting to getting rid of the spores so stop trying to suppress the cough as it will only prolong things.. Instead become super hydrated as all get out and see if that cough doesn't go away in a week.

I too started having respiratory issues after mowing. Just a fact of getting older. You also can have issues with weather changes. As you age the nasal passages cannot adjust to changes in barometric pressure so your sinuses don't drain as well. They become petri dishes growing bacteria.

Wife said to get a tractor with cab. So I did. The AC keeps the cab pressurized to keep dust out. I didn't realize how bad the dust was until I mowed the first time. The tractor was covered but the cab was clean. Also the bigger tractor allows me to use a hay grapple to unload 10 square bales at a time when I haul hay.

I had a friend die from Valley Fever because of dust in a field on a farm. I've had "dust flu" several times with an open cab tractor.
That was enough for me. It was to the point I'd use the tractor then have to be out of commission for several days then repeat and do it all over again.
Last I said that's it. I spend boatload of money on a tractor with a cab AC/HEAT and have never had "dust flue" since.
There comes a time when you can't put a price on your health.

^ Yep!
When I worked ground with my old John Deere, for the next few days I'd be blowing out mud every time I blew my nose. I can only imagine what that was doing to my lungs.

Now with the Kubota, I pressurize the interior of the cab and stay clean...although sometimes there is so much dust covering the cab windows it is difficult to see out. At the end of the day I have to take the time to clean both cab air filters but to me that's time well spent!
