Ballast Counter Weight Suggestions

I have the same ballast box as in the pic, cost was 175.00 from my dealer, you can fit 8 50lb bags of sand in them. I like to put 6 inside and put all my tools in it as well. I carry shovel, chainsaw,chains,hooks,slings,clevis.... makes one heck of a tool box...

I personally like loaded tires,they are always with you,you don't have to put on or take off. Extra weight added to the 3ph for real heavy lifts are fine,but quite often when a quicky job pops up, those heavy tires are always there.Rear tires on my L3010 weigh 900#

I made a counter weight from an old quad tire and an axel from my former quad. Works well and serves as a wheelie bar when on steep terrain, which I have in abundance. recently purchased a box blade which also works well when attached. Nice part of the Quad tire is it does not stick out to far thus easier to manouver in close quarters.

There is no down pressure on the 3pt. I was just wondering how it works like a weelie bar?

Dosen't actually work as a weelie bar, but it does roll if it touches down rather than digging in like a weight box would.

I would go with something like a box blade and filled tires. as said earlier the tires are always there with you and a box blade is rather handy. also consider that a 55 gal drum cut in half is only going to yield you around 500 lbs and change.( that is average concrete weight of 150 per cubic ft.) Hope this helps.

I agree,a sturdy box blade and loaded tires have always served me well even with a 6 foot bucket filled with gravel beyond the brim...Mike.
